Weather Alert

10/02/15, 12 p.m.

Due to the inclement weather resulting from Hurricane Joaquin, alumni and parent activities scheduled for Homecoming & Parent Weekend (including the Parents' Council Fall Meeting) are cancelled. All intercollegiate athletics events scheduled for this weekend are postponed.

As of now, the fall theatre production of "Almost, Maine" will continue with all scheduled performances this weekend. Please note, however, that the student choral concert “Words & Music,” scheduled for Monday evening, has been rescheduled for October 16.

At this point, a wide variety of activities and services will continue for students on campus. Classes will go on as scheduled through the weekend for the Adult Studies Program and on Monday, October 5, for day and evening courses.

Please be aware that in the event of power outages on campus, the College is prepared to ensure the safety and comfort of our students. Plans are in place for alternative power sources, food service, safe student activities and other appropriate services.

Although Hurricane Joaquin appears to be tracking away from the Hampton Roads area, the ongoing effects of lingering rain and wind can create hazardous conditions. Please exercise caution and use your best judgment. If you feel that it is unsafe for you to travel to campus, please stay home, e-mail your supervisor or faculty member about your situation, and be safe.

In the event that the regional forecast changes for the worse, VWC students, faculty and staff are encouraged to check their email, the College's website, and social media.

Campus Emergency Information

Virginia Wesleyan sees safety as a top priority in creating an educational environment where students, faculty and staff members can thrive. Although no one wants to think about an emergency situation occurring at Virginia Wesleyan, it is important to be prepared for such occasions.

In effort to prepare for emergencies, the College has an Emergency Response Team that pulls administrators and staff from all areas of campus life to meet regularly and address such concerns as natural disasters and medical emergencies.

It is important that members of the campus community be aware of Virginia Wesleyan's emergency procedures and most importantly, are cooperative and responsive in times of an emergency.
