The placing of individuals at this location was prompted by unprecedented residential student enrollment and retention rates. We currently have the largest resident student population in college history. However, regardless of where you are assigned, we intend to make your time here as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. Most of your questions should be answered on this page, however, I welcome you to call the office should you need any additional information.

Amenities

Suggestions for packing

Students moving into the Sleep Inn Lake Wright Hotel are encouraged to bring only those items appropriate to a hotel room. Items such as TV’s, stereos, posters, etc cannot be accommodated in the room (VCRs and small refrigerators are an exception). Storage is limited; therefore students should only bring necessary items.

Recommendations

There are several places in the room, such as in the closet and under the sink, where students may find it beneficial to provide additional storage units of their own. We will have a staff member’s room set up with storage options for you to view when you arrive. We recommend that you see the room before purchasing any storage containers so you can decide what will best meet your needs when you arrive. There are many shopping options within a five-minute driving distance from the hotel, to include Target, Wal-Mart, and Home Depot.

Should you choose to purchase storage bins before your arrival, the following measurements may help guide your purchases. The closet has a shelf at the top which measures 53" long, 24" high, and 18" deep. The closet also has a small shelf on the floor which measures 23" long, 16" high, and 18" deep. The space under the sink in the room is open for students to store their belongings, but it is somewhat limited by the pipe for the sink. There is a space measuring 15" long, 23" high, and 21 inches deep, which is not obstructed by the pipe.

Residence life

Students will be responsible for completing a room inventory form upon move-in and check-out of their rooms in the Lake Wright Hotel. This process will be explained at the first floor meeting with your Resident Assistants. Additionally, students will be expected to uphold the same rules and regulations as students living on campus. Living temporarily in the Sleep Inn Lake Wright Hotel is considered living on campus as a Virginia Wesleyan student.

Additionally, to assist in building community, making new friends, feeling comfortable at the Lake Wright Hotel, and connecting with campus life, Residence Life staff will be providing multiple programs and activities over the course of the first several weeks of the fall semester.

Shuttle service

Campus Security will provide a shuttle service between campus and the hotel. The shuttle will leave for campus from the hotel Lobby entrance on the hour. The shuttle will leave campus 15 minutes after the hour from Parking Lot "A", which is adjacent to the Hofheimer Library and Godwin Hall. Students who have their own cars may prefer to drive themselves on their own schedules. Should a student miss a shuttle trip, he or she may call security to request a special pick up. Students will receive a detailed schedule of the shuttle service when they arrive.

Security

The Sleep Inn Lake Wright Hotel has its own security staff monitoring the property at night. Additionally, the Virginia Wesleyan Security staff will respond to any situation at the Sleep Inn Lake Wright Hotel.

Dining services

Meals will be provided through the 15 meal plan on campus in the Boyd Dining Center and the Marlin Grille. Students in the Sleep Inn Lake Wright will still follow normal operating hours for the Boyd Dining Center and the Marlin Grille. Additionally, equivalency hours will remain the same for students staying in the Sleep Inn Lake Wright. The morning shuttle services will be scheduled in such a way that students wanting a full breakfast or continental breakfast on campus may choose the appropriate shuttle.

Parking

Should students choose to drive between campus and the Sleep Inn Lake Wright Hotel there is ample parking available outside the Hotel and on campus (Lots B, C, or D).
