Orientation 2009 for Freshman

Scene I Information

Dear Members of the Class of 2013:

I am delighted that you have chosen to become a member of the Virginia Wesleyan community, and it is with equal pleasure that I invite you to join the other members of the Class of 2013 for Orientation 2009. The Orientation Program consists of two sessions, Scene I in July and Scene II in August.

Scene I is a one-day program for you and your parents.  The program will give you the opportunity to meet other members of your class, to learn about the College's liberal arts curriculum, to become acquainted with student services, to plan your fall class schedule with your academic advisor, and to register for your classes.  Parents will be equally busy learning about all the services, support, and programs that will be afforded to you while you are a student here at the College.  For your convenience, we are offering two dates to choose from:  July 13 OR July 15.  For both dates, plan to arrive on campus at 8:00 a.m., at which time you will receive directions to the Jane P. Batten Student Center for Orientation 2009.

As mentioned above, one of the goals of Scene I is to help you develop your fall schedule of classes.  You and your advisor will discuss your course selections, craft a fall schedule, and register online for the 2009 fall semester.  During Scene II, you will have an opportunity to make any changes which you and your advisor agree upon.

If you have not already done so, you may download the Orientation Reservation Form from this site and return the form to my office.  Please note that the session on Monday, July 13, 2009, is closed and you will need to make plans to attend the Wednesday, July 15, 2009, Orientation, Scene I Program.  You will receive an email confirmation of your registration once your form is received in my office.

In addition to Scene I, all students are required to attend Scene II, August 19 - 22, 2009. You will receive more specific information regarding Scene II during the first week of August. Parents will attend only the morning of the first day, August 19. Classes will begin on Monday, August 24, 2009.

I look forward to meeting you and your classmates in July and to personally welcoming you and your parents to our campus community.

Sincerely,

David E. Buckingham
