Scene I Information
Dear Members of the Class of 2012:
I am delighted that you have chosen to become a member of the Virginia Wesleyan community, and it is with equal pleasure that I invite you to join the other members of the Class of 2012 for Orientation 2008. The Orientation Program consists of two sessions, Scene I in July and Scene II in August.
Scene I is a two-day program for students and parent with an overnight stay on campus for students. The program will give you the opportunity to meet other members of your class, to learn about the College's liberal arts curriculum, to become acquainted with student services, to plan your fall class schedule with your Academic Advisor, and to engage in a host of activities which you will learn more about once you arrive on campus. Parents will be equally busy learning about all the services, support, and programs that will be afforded to you while you are a student here at the College. For your convenience, we are offering two dates to choose from: July 14 and 15 or July 16 and 17. For both dates, plan to arrive on campus at 8:30 a.m., at which time you will receive directions to the Batten Student Center for Orientation 2008.
During Scene I, you and your advisor will discuss your course selections, craft a fall schedule, and register online for the 2008 fall semester. During Scene II, you will have additional time to make any changes which you and your advisor agree upon.
Members of the Class of 2012 will be housed on campus in Village I during Scene I. Parents should plan to make their own overnight arrangements and for their convenience, a partial list of hotels that are minutes from the campus are listed under the Parents Schedule. Students with special housing needs should contact the Residence Life Office at (757) 455-3295. The College will host students and their guests for all the meals scheduled during Scene I.
You may download the Orientation Reservation Form from this site, indicate your preference, and return the form with your Orientation fee to my office by June 2, 2008. Every effort will be made to give you your first choice, but we are trying to balance attendance at the two Scene I sessions, so please choose your selection as soon as possible. After June 2nd, you will receive confirmation of that weekend for which you are registered. Also, on this site under the student schedule section, you will find an important check list of information and items that you will need for Scene I. There is an orientation registration fee of $225.00, which is separate from your fall tuition bill, and covers the programs in July and August for the students as well as on-campus meals for their parents/guests. This registration fee should be included with your reservation form.
In addition to Scene I, all students are required to attend Scene II, August 20 - 23, 2008. You will receive more specific information regarding Scene II during the first week of August. Parents will attend only the morning of the first day, August 20th. Classes will begin on Monday, August 25, 2008.
I look forward to meeting you and your classmates in July and to personally welcoming you and your parents to our campus community.
Sincerely,
David E. Buckingham
Vice President for Student Affairs
and Dean of Students
