Circle K
Circle
K is a co-educational service, leadership development, and
friendship organization, sponsored by a Kiwanis club on a college or university
campus. It is a self-governing organization and elects its own officers,
conducts its own meetings, determines its own service activities, and establishes
its own dues structure. Its Objects include the Objects of Kiwanis, www.kiwanis.org.
Once organized, a Circle K club continues to be sponsored
by a Kiwanis club. Although the ultimate responsibility for
Circle is that of the Kiwanis Board of Directors, the sponsorship
function is most directly carried out by the Kiwanis club Committee on Circle
K Clubs, assisted by a faculty advisor (who may or may not be a Kiwanian)
designated by the college or university administration. District and International
Conventions are held each year. At the International Convention,
International officers are elected, the Constitution and Bylaws are amended,
and Circle K members participate in a service project.

Habitat for Humanity
South Hampton Roads Habitat for Humanity, Inc. is the local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International and sponsor of the Virginia Wesleyan Chapter of Habitat for Humanity. Local affiliates throughout the world carry out the Habitat mission to eliminate poverty housing and make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. Habitat invites people from all walks of life to work together in partnership to help build houses for low-income families throughout the 7 cites of South Hampton Roads. The Virginia Wesleyan Chapter has built three houses since 1997.

SEAL
The Student Environmental Awareness League (S.E.A.L.) attempts to raise
the consciousness of students about current issues in the environment. The
organization feels that through knowledge of environmental issues, each
person will become conscious of their own actions and hopefully make a positive
change.

Imagine: Wesleyan's Alternative Break Program
The alternative break program at Virginia Wesleyan is called Imagine. 1999 was the first year of the student-led program under the auspices of the Office of Community Service. Up to three groups of 12 each are selected to participate each year. Sites are announced in the fall.
Past teams have traveled as near as Northern Virginia to work with
the homeless and as far as Mississippi to rebuild after Hurricane Katrina.
International sites have included the Dominican Republic and Costa Rica.

Relay For Life
Relay For Life is a fun-filled overnight event designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money for research and programs for the American Cancer Society. During the event, teams of people gather on campus and take turns walking or running laps. Each team tries to keep at least one team member on the track at all times.
