Freshmen Interest Groups
More than just a room!
Live and study among a diverse group of students who share a common interest.
The first semester of college brings a fresh start in a new social setting, and is one that may be scary for some. Put your mind at ease, knowing that you'll be paired with peers who share similar interests. Virginia Wesleyan offers three different Freshmen Interest Groups (FIGs), which provide opportunities for experiential learning, leadership training, community building and one-on-one relationships with staff members. Unlike the Living and Learning Communities, FIGs do not have an academic requirement.

Student Leadership and Community Service
Do you have a knack for giving back, taking the lead and doing for others? In this community you will work with the Student Activities Office and the Office of Community Service to energize and encourage your peers through training and hands-on experiences that will give you the skills to be an active leader on campus. You will work to organize, advertise, and facilitate community service opportunities for faculty, staff and students at the College and in the local Hampton Roads area. You will also be given the opportunity to reflect on the impact you can have on a local, regional, national and global level.
Head off on your own adventure outside of class through this interest group. Participate in hiking, hunting, camping, biking and white water rafting trips by working with RecX and the Office of Residence Life. You'll explore outdoor recreation opportunities and plan adventurous activities for the group and the campus community.
Discover the seven concepts of wellness, giving you the tools to lead a well-balanced life. By making a commitment to live well in all aspects of your life, you'll commit to be alcohol, drug and tobacco free. In this group, you'll strive to implement healthy living practices in your personal life and throughout the community.
