Help impact hunger with the food preparation program "Cooking for Kids" on Wednesday, September 24 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Boyd Dining Center's kitchen. Child nutrition is a real issue in our communities and ending childhood hunger is a major priority of our Foodbank. Marlins Make A Difference Day
8 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Show Hampton Roads that Wesleyan cares as part of Marlins Make a Difference Day on Thursday, September 27 from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at several sites throughout the area, including Western Bayside Community Garden, Heritage UMC Food Pantry, Habitat for Humanity and trails on the VWC campus. We'll start the day at 8 a.m. with bagels, go to our sites, then return for pizza. All participants will receive a t-shirt. Transportation is provided. Sign up in the Office of Community Service. Internship and Volunteer Fair
10:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Opportunities to learn and serve will be showcased at the Internship and Volunteer Fair on Tuesday, September 30 from 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Marlin Grille in the Jane P. Batten Student Center. The offices of Career Services and Community Service have teamed up to showcase organizations and agencies that offer internship and volunteer opportunities. Participants will include: Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation, the Virginia Beach Convention Center, GEICO, Virginia Department of Corrections, Central Intelligence Agency, Global Spectrum, FOR Kids, the Resource King International (Earn and Learn for Youth), First Landing State Park, and Park Place Child Life Center/FOCUS Center. Documentary Premiere: Winter Shelter, On Campus
7 p.m. - 9 p.m.
A premiere of the new documentary about Virginia Wesleyan's student-led, on-campus emergency winter homeless shelter will be held on Monday, October 6 from 7-9 p.m. in Blocker Auditorium. "Winter Shelter, On Campus" is 16-minute documentary film that captures the unique relationship between college students and the homeless, showcasing a long-standing college-community partnership with positive outcomes. The film pitches a sheltering model for other colleges and universities to consider. A large contingent from VWC's partner agency, Portsmouth Volunteers for the Homeless, is expected to be in attendance. Tea Talk and Tutorial

Meet study abroad returnees and international students, learn something new and enjoy a hot cup of coffee/tea and a sweet or savory treat at the "Tea Talk and Tutorial" on Friday, October 10 from 2-3 p.m. in the Princess Anne Room in the Boyd Dining Center. Open to VWC students, faculty and staff. This is a recurring event that takes place on the second Friday of each month at 2 p.m. (locations and topics subject to change). American Red Cross Blood Drive

Kappa Alpha Order will host an American Red Cross Blood Drive on Wednesday, November 5 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the CMAC inside the Jane P. Batten Student Center. Sign up to donate blood online at www.redcrossblood.org; scheduled blood donors will complete the donation process in about an hour. Walk-ins are welcome as space is available. Volunteers are needed at registration and at the canteen on the day of the drive. Volunteers may sign up in the Office of Community Service for one-hour shifts during the drive.
