Clubs and Organizations

Beneath our modest size…There are more than 70 organizations and clubs on the Virginia Wesleyan campus, including some that are bound to catch your interest. From our award-winning newspaper The Marlin Chronicle and honor organizations to cheerleading, political clubs and Model United Nations, there's something for everyone. There are even eight national fraternities and sororities on campus. And, if there's something you feel passionate about that's not represented, you're welcome to start an organization to pursue your interest.

Becoming part of a college organization is a great way to get involved with campus life, meet people who are interested in the same things you are, and grow as an individual. It's one more way to compound the value of your Virginia Wesleyan experience.

Academics / Professional

Classics Club To join others with interest in classical history and myth.
Drama Club Encourages and promotes theatre among students on campus and provides opportunities for theatre productions.
Friends of Psi Chi Informal campus group affiliated with the psychology honor society of Psi Chi.
Marlins Business Association Creates experiences with big corporations and companies to see how they work and operate.
Marlins Undergoing Success Together Provides a mentoring program that will encourage students to be well-rounded, goal-oriented, and healthy individuals; focuses on on academic, social, cultural, and spiritual aspects of college life; recommended especially for first-generation college students, students of color or under-represented groups.
Math/ Computer Science Club Provides a means for those with similar interest in math and computer science to meet and to increase the interest of other students on campus in math and computer science.
Model United Nations Serves as a campus organization for students interested in international politics, public policy and diplomacy; joins teams from around the world to attend the National Model United Nations (NMUN) conference in New York City.
Philosophical Society Fosters a philosophical community within the VWC community; explores, produces, and engages in dialects pertaining to Philosophical issues.
Political Science Association Encourages all forms and expressions of political interest and opinion in a non-partisan manner. The goal of the organization is to raise student awareness about the impact of politics and legislation on the nation.
Positive Outreach Promoting Science Promotes interest in the sciences with positive outreach into the community.
Rec and Leisure Majors Club Provides students with opportunities for recreational activities and provides leadership experiences for recreation majors.
Science Club Provides educational programming relatied to science occupations and careers, a support structure to increase informal student-student and student-faculty interactions, and opportunities to increase public awareness of science issues on our campus and in the community. This organization is open to all science majors and minors, as well as those with interest in science.
Social Work Club
Society for the Advancement of Management Enhances management skills, provides global networking possibilities and exposure to the Business major
Student Virginia Education Association Brings education majors together for workshops and programs designed to help with problems and provide ideas for use in the classroom. It gives members information about the historical, ethical and recent trends in education.

Community Service

Circle K Circle K is an international organization affiliated with the Kiwanis clubs. The membership is committed to community service and developing quality leaders and citizens.
Habitat for Humanity Builds houses in partnership with the working poor. Motivated by the vision of "a decent house in a decent community for God's people in need", students work at local sites. Participation is open to all levels of building skills.
Marlins Go Green Raises awareness of how the campus can go green and to see just how fun and easy it can be.
Student Outreach Coordinators Student Outreach Coordinators, along with Student Service Clubs, make up the leashership team of the Office of Community Service. SOC raises awareness of societal issues and inspires all Virginia Wesleyan College students, faculty, and staff to engage in community action, by planning and implementing direct service projects that meet real community needs.

Equality Alliance Unites those who value equal rights for all people regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity; strives to foster awareness, peace, and education to the campus community of these issues.
International Student Organization A support and networking organization for all international students at Virginia Wesleyan College; organizes and promotes international events for both international and American students.

Greek Life

Alpha Kappa Alpha The women of Alpha Kappa Alpha promote true sisterhood and friendship and have had an honorable impression on the community. They believe that their members will find social and economic betterment at the local, state, and international levels through scholastics and ethical standards. They were founded on January 15, 1908 at Howard University and their colors are salmon pink and apple green. Service to all mankind.
Alpha Sigma Alpha Alpha Sigma Alpha encourage within its sisterhood the physical, intellectual, social, and spiritual growth of its members. Every year the chapter supports Alpha Sigma Alpha's national philanthropy, Special Olympics. Alpha Sigma Alpha wishes to support the members as they become all that is within their reach to be and to establish a community between its young women where possible.
Greek Presidents The association of Greek Presidents provides unity among the social Greek Lettered organizations. Additionally, the presidents coordinate rush events and sponsor a fall and spring event for the entire campus.
Interfraternity Council Promotes all fraternities in our Greek System. The IFC is dedicated in promoting a shared vision of integrity, academic excellence and brotherhood. The IFC is the umbrella organization for the three social fraternities on campus Phi Kappa Tau, Kappa Alpha, and Sigma Nu.
Kappa Alpha Order Kappa Alpha Order is a national fraternity whose two primary goals are the acquisition of knowledge and the development of character. To achieve these goals, Kappa Alpha brothers sponsor and participate in programs for VWC and the greater community.
Panhellenic Council The Virginia Wesleyan College Panhellenic Council supports the sororities in our Greek System. The Panhellenic Council promotes values, education, leadership, friendships, cooperation, and citizenship among Greek women. Panhellenic Council is an umbrella organization for the four sororities on campus Alpha Kappa Alpha, Alpha Sigma Alpha, Phi Sigma Sigma, and Sigma Sigma Sigma.
Phi Kappa Tau Phi Kappa Tau is a national fraternity based on a strong sense of brotherhood and fellowship. Joining the fraternity is considered a special life-long commitment that emphasizes the development of its members both socially and scholastically.
Phi Sigma Sigma Phi Sigma Sigma is a dynamic sisterhood of powerful women fostering uncompromising principles, igniting positive change and embracing individuality. The mission of Phi Sigma Sigma is to inspire the personal development of each sister and perpetuate the advancement of womanhood. Each year the chapter supports and raises funds for their philanthropy, the Phi Sigma Sigma Foundation which supports the National Kidney Foundation, with a Rock-a-thon. The women of Phi Sigma Sigma strive everyday to live out their core values of leadership through service, inclusiveness and life long learning.
Sigma Nu Sigma Nu, the first "social" fraternity chartered at Virginia Wesleyan, promotes the ideals of love, truth, and honor through the Brotherhood. The brothers engage in many campus and community related events that help to develop the character of each person.
Sigma Sigma Sigma Sigma Sigma Sigma is the newest national sorority at Virginia Wesleyan. The sorority promotes the betterment of women by encouraging high scholastic achievement, development of leadership skills and encouraging philanthropic events that create a more positive life for people.
Zeta Phi Beta Zeta Phi Beta was founded on the campus of Howard University on January 16, 1920. The Sorority's international programs such as Z-HOPE serve to empower people from all walks of life.

Alpha Kappa Delta International honor society for Sociology; encourages the study of humanity through social awareness and research.
Alpha Phi Sigma The Honor Society for Criminal Justice; promotes critical thinking, rigorous scholarship and life-long learning; Keeps members abreast of advances in scientific research; Elevates the ethical standards of the criminal justice profession
Alpha Psi Omega The Honor Society for Theatre majors
Alpha Sigma Lambda National honor society for students in continuing education. The Virginia Wesleyan chapter was formed to recognize students who have demonstrated academic excellence in the Adult Studies Program.
Beta Beta Beta National biological honor society; dedicated to improving the understanding and appreciation of biological study and extending boundaries of human knowledge through scientific research.
Chi Alpha Sigma A nonprofit organization established to recognize college student athletes who earn a varsity letter in at least one sport while maintaining a 3.4 or higher cumulative GPA throughout their junior and senior years.
Delta Phi Alpha Delta Phi Alpha welcomes students who excel in the study of the German language and literature.
Eta Sigma Phi An honor society for students studying the Classics
Gamma Sigma Alpha National Greek Academic Honor Society was founded to promote intellectual interaction between Greek-affiliated students and the academic community.
Gamma Sigma Epsilon A national chemistry honor society founded in 1919 at Davidson College
Gamma Sigma Epsilon The national chemistry honor society founded in 1919 at Davidson College; recognizes outstanding academic achievement in chemistry and aims to promote professionalism and scholarship in chemistry.
Honors and Scholars Association The association provides an instrument through which members can meet and talk about academic concerns and discuss social issues that affect Wesleyan Scholars.
Iota Phi Theta Promotes the development and perpetuation of scholarship, leadership, citizenship, fidelity, and brotherhood among Greek-affiliated men.
Kappa Delta Pi An international honor society in education committed to recognizing excellence and fostering mutual cooperation, support, and professional growth for educational professionals.
Lambda Pi Eta The official communication studies honor society of the National Communication Association; recognizes, fosters, and rewards outstanding scholastic achievement; stimulates interest in the field of communication; promotes and encourages professional development among communication majors; provides an opportunity to discuss and exchange ideas about the field.
Omicron Delta Kappa A national leadership honor society that recognizes accomplishments of students in five areas: scholarship, athletics, journalism, campus leadership and the performing arts.
Order of Omega A leadership honorary that recognizes Juniors and Seniors who have contributed to the Greek community and the campus.
Phi Alpha Theta The international honor society for History; recognizes outstanding academic achievement in the field of history and promotes an appreciation of history among students. The society sponsors speakers, debates, and seminars throughout the year.
Phi Eta Sigma Identifies and celebrates the academic achievement of freshmen with a 3.5 GPA; lifelong membership.
Pi Delta Phi A nationally affiliated French Honor Society.
Pi Sigma Alpha VWC's chapter of the National Political Science Society; recognizes outstanding students in Political Science and promotes understanding of political issues.
PORTfolio PORTfolio students work closely with their faculty advisors to identify the attitudes, skills, and knowledge that are necessary to make progress along each Dimension of Living. As the essential elements become evident, the students and their advisors collaboratively examine our curriculum, campus life, and resources available both within and beyond the Hampton Roads metropolitan area in order to plan a course of action that can acheive the desired results. PORTfolio focuses on enhanced learning, engagement in the community, electronic portfolio, and experiential opportunities.
Psi Chi The national honor society for Psychology; encourages, stimulates, and maintains excellence in scholarship and works to advance the science of psychology.
Rho Lambda Honors those women within the sorority community who have exhibited the highest qualities of leadership and service to their Greek community and their sorority.
Rho Phi Lambda The honor society for Recreation and Leisure Studies.
Sigma Beta Delta The international honor society in business, management, and administration; It was established to encourage and recognize scholarship and accomplishment among students of business, management, and administration and to encourage and promote aspirations toward personal and professional improvement and a life distinguished by honorable service to humankind.
Sigma Delta Pi A national honor society for Spanish; recognizes students who attain excellence in the study of the Spanish Language.
Sigma Tau Delta The English honor society; increases student awareness of activities in the field of English and encourages reading of classic world literature.
Sigma Zeta A national honor society founded in 1925 to recognize undergraduate excellence in the natural sciences, computer science, and mathematics.
Theta Alpha Kappa Recognizes achievement in religious studies and encourages an interest in religious studies.

Leadership Organizations

Black Student Onion Helps blacks and other minorities adapt academically and socially to college life; includes outreach to the Hampton Roads area through positive community events; brings together all aspects of black student life to improve the campus environment for all.
Student Government Association SGA is the liaison between the student body and the College administration. SGA and its Senators host activities which benefit the entire campus community.
Wesleyan Activities Council WAC is the programming board dedicated to providing quality events and entertainment for the campus community.
Wesleyan Ambassadors Provides tours and other related services to prospective Virginia Wesleyan students and their families.

Special Interest

Anime Club Explores the art of Anime through drawing, videos, and games; welcomes anyone interested in Anime or interested in learning more.
Army ROTC Offers students the opportunity to enroll in an Army ROTC program through an extension agreement with the established ROTC unit at Old Dominion University. Courses are offered which develop a student's ability to organize, motivate and lead others. Further information on this program may be obtained by contacting the VWC Admissions Office
College Republicans A unit of the VA Federation of College Republicans and a chapter of the National Federation of College Republicans; acts as a liaison to officials of the state party and nationally elected representatives; engages in awareness efforts on and off campus including the electoral process and informing citizens about causes ranging from pro-life issues to the defense of the nation, firearm rights and taxation.
Commuter Club Builds resources for commuters and organizes events and fundraisers to help commuters integrate with the campus community.

Healthy Living Club Promotes healthy eating.

Red Flag Campaign Coordinates an education campaign to raise awareness of dating violence among students.
Relay for Life Relay for Life is a walk held in June. Teams raise money for cancer research and those teams make a pledge that they will have someone on the track at all times. Wesleyan's group name is "Marlins Fight for Life."
Society of Collegiate Journalists The Society hopes to elevate the cause of mass communications, and to teach the ethics, technique and mechanics of good communication; Members are also encouraged to participate in local and campus communication media.
Student Environmental Awareness Club Attempts to raise consciousness of current issues in the environment; The organization feels that through knowledge of environmental issues, each person will become conscious of their own actions and hopefully will make a positive change.
The Marlin Chronicle Virginia Wesleyan's campus newspaper. The paper is published ten times each school year and provides the College community with information about campus and area happenings. The newspaper also provides students and faculty with an outlet for expressing their interests and concerns. Every student with an interest in writing for or producing a newspaper is invited to join the staff.
The Outlet The student art and literary magazine of Virginia Wesleyan, published every April. The purpose of The Outlet is to promote and recognize creative talents in the literary and art fields and to provide a means of acquiring the necessary skills to publish a magazine.
The Sandpiper The Sandpiper, published each spring, is the Virginia Wesleyan College yearbook. The staff, comprised of students, write the copy, provide the photographs, and design the layouts for the publication.

Wesleyan Beekeepers Association To further beekeeping, to promote awareness of the importance of bees to the environment, and to increase students' and the public's awareness of the beekeeping community. Beekeeping is one of the many ways to explore mankind's interactions with his world and the Wesleyan Beekeepers Association promotes the ability of students to enjoy the broad range of experiences that a liberal arts education provides.
Wesleyan Choir Council  
Young Democrats Provides an outlet for those students eager to get involved in politics and the Democratic Party. Members promote campus awareness of local, state and national candidates and issues.

Spiritual Life

Campus Crusade for Christ CRU is part of Marlin Ministries
Intervarsity Intervarsity is an interdenominational student ministry that seeks a witnessing community of Jesus growing in grace and engaging all of life. IV provides a place for students to grow in their love for God, His word, His people, and His purposes in the world through bible study, worship, fellowship, outreach, leadership, and discipleship.
Marlin Christian Athletes The Fellowship of Christian Athletes is an interdenominational Christian organization that for more than forty years has been focused on the purpose: "to present to athletes and coaches, and all whom they influence, the challenge and adventure of receiving Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, serving Him in their relationships and in the fellowship of the church."
