Mission, Vision, Values

The mission of the Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies is as follows:

"Within the framework of the liberal arts, the mission of the Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies is the education of students so that they may become informed consumers, skilled professionals, and advocates of recreation and leisure services throughout their personal and professional lives."   

The vision of the Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies is as follows:

“The Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies, by 2020, will be one of the five largest majors according to total number of declared students, achieve a 100% passing rate on both the CPRP and CTRS examinations, and be viewed by the recreation community in Hampton Roads as a valued member.”

The values of the Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies are as follow:

”The Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies values:

  • Student-faculty academic relationships.
  • The integration of practical and classroom learning.
  • Collaboration with practitioners to benefit our students.
  • Effort and dedication on the part of faculty and students to achieve learning outcomes and prepare students for life after college.”
