Apr 21, 2008: 8th Annual Alumni Association Scholarship Auction & Party Takes Endowed Legacy Scholarship Over $100,000

Norfolk/Virginia Beach, Va. - On Friday night, April 18, more than 120 alumni, faculty members, parents and friends gathered at the Cavalier Golf & Yacht Club in Virginia Beach, Va., for the 8th Annual Alumni Association Scholarship Auction & Party.
The event included a silent auction, a live auction in addition to heavy hors d'oeuvres and live music. Net proceeds from the event took the Alumni Association's Legacy Endowed Scholarship to over $100,000. This scholarship award specifically supports Virginia Wesleyan students whose parents are VWC alumni.
Three alumni were recognized with the Distinguished Alumnus Award, which honors alumni who have attained distinguished achievements in a professional capacity. This year's winners are Melissa Burroughs '86, executive vice president and chief lending officer for Old Point National Bank, Chip Tsantes '83, executive vice president and chief technology officer for Intersections, Inc., and Paul Zimba '79, research microbiologist at the U.S. Agricultural Research Service.
