Jun 17, 2009: Development Grants Promote Faculty Excellence At Wesleyan

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Norfolk/Virginia Beach, Va. – Nine Virginia Wesleyan College faculty members—from the Humanities, Natural Sciences and Mathematics and Social Sciences Divisions—have been awarded 2009 faculty summer development grants.

Each year the College provides competitive development grants, which encourage a wide range of professional development activities for Virginia Wesleyan faculty members. Projects include research aimed at publication, the enhancement of teaching effectiveness, development of interdisciplinary interests, the design of innovative or interdisciplinary courses, and experimentation with new instructional modes.

"When we speak about 'a culture of inquiry at Virginia Wesleyan,' that also refers to the sorts of research that faculty members embrace," said Dr. Craig Wansink, associate dean of the college and professor of religious studies. "Through these grants faculty research ends up modeling for our students both some of the ways we grow intellectually and some of the wonder and research dispositions that we hope they will acquire while at Virginia Wesleyan."
