May 27, 2009: Now Accepting Nominations For Wesleyan's Athletic Hall Of Fame

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE


Norfolk/Virginia Beach, Va. – Virginia Wesleyan College's Athletic Hall of Fame Committee is accepting nominations for the second class now through August 31.

Established in May 2007, Virginia Wesleyan's Athletic Hall of Fame honors those, who by outstanding achievement in athletics, by service to athletics, or through significant contributions to athletics, have made lasting contributions to Virginia Wesleyan's intercollegiate athletic program.

In February 2009, eight members were inducted into the charter class of the Athletic Hall of Fame. Inaugural members included: Lonnie Blow '82, Stacy L. Carr '91, Donald M. Forsyth, Michael S. For the second year, two Athletic Hall of Fame members were appointed to serve on the Athletic Hall of Fame Committee. New committee members for 2009-2010 include Donald M. Forsyth and Amy Simpson Woodson '86, who will each serve three-year terms. Returning committee members include: Joanne M. Renn, Gary D. Bonnewell '79, Timothy E. Hopkins '91, Jennifer D. Jellig '01, J.P. Stewart, Larry D. Hultgren, Joe Wasiluk and Lisa Black.

Those inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame are permanently recognized in the Athletic Hall of Fame installation, located adjacent to the entrance of the Jane P. Batten Student Center.

The 2010 Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Luncheon will be held Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010. Following the luncheon, the Marlin men's basketball team will play Roanoke College at 2 p.m. and the Marlin women's basketball team will play Randolph-Macon College at 4 p.m.

Gifts and pledges to the Athletic Hall of Fame are part of the College's Key to the Future Campaign, a vision the College has to become a Phi Beta Kappa-caliber college. The Campaign is at $52.6 million on a goal of $65 million, 81 percent of goal.

Virginia Wesleyan College boasts 19 intercollegiate sports and competes in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference and NCAA Division III. The athletic program at the College began in 1968 with intercollegiate competition following a year later in 1969.
