May 13, 2009: Chemistry Honor Society Welcomes Newest Members

Norfolk/Virginia Beach, Va. – Virginia Wesleyan College's chapter of Gamma Sigma Epsilon, the national chemistry honor society, inducted two new members and an honorary member on Thursday, April 7.
Gamma Sigma Epsilon was formed in 1919 by two World War I soldiers and a young chemistry student. Gamma Sigma Epsilon now has 50 active chapters in 20 states and has inducted over 13,500 members since its inception. Virginia Wesleyan's chapter (Epsilon Epsilon) was founded in May 2008.
The purpose of the organization is to recognize outstanding students demonstrating exceptional ability and interest in the field of chemistry. It aims to promote professionalism and scholarship in chemistry and the general welfare of its members. To become a member, students must have a 3.0 GPA in all chemistry courses, have at least a 3.0 overall GPA, be nominated and present a letter of recommendation from at least one chemistry faculty member.
Students inducted were Amy Bradford '10 from Virginia Beach, Va.; Jennifer Forbes '10 from Chesapeake, Va.; and honorary member Dr. Maury Howard, assistant professor of chemistry at Virginia Wesleyan.
