May 6, 2009: Communications Honor Society Welcomes New Students

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Norfolk/Virginia Beach, Va. – Virginia Wesleyan College's chapter of Lambda Pi Eta, the official communication studies honor society of the National Communication Association, welcomed 11 new members into its chapter on Thursday, April 30.

Lambda Phi Eta has more than 400 active chapters at four-year colleges and universities world wide. Following Aristotle's three ingredients of persuasion: Logos (Lambda) meaning logic, Pathos (Pi) relating to emotion and Ethos (Eta) defined as character credibility and ethics, the honor society strives for the following goals:

  • Recognize, foster, and reward outstanding scholastic achievement.
  • Stimulate interest in the field of communication.
  • Promote and encourage professional development among communication majors.
  • Provide an opportunity to discuss and exchange ideas about the field.
  • Establish and maintain close relationships and understanding between faculty and students
  • Explore options for graduate education in communication studies.

New members inducted were Giacomo Biscotti '10 from Chesapeake, Va.; Devin Cowhey '10 from Glenside, Pa.; Alisa Crider '10 from Virginia Beach, Va.; Morgan Franklin '10 from Newport News, Va.; Meghan See '11 from Louisa, Va.; Lindsey Sigafoos '10 from Virginia Beach, Va.; Heather Templeton '10 from Hayes, Va.; and Chelsea Wiseman '10 from Virginia Beach, Va.

To become a member of Lambda Pi Eta, students must have an overall GPA of at least 3.0, maintain a 3.25 GPA in communication courses and display commitment to the field of communication.
