May 4, 2009: Updates And Precautions For Swine Flu Influenza

Norfolk/Virginia Beach, Va. – Virginia Wesleyan College has issued the campus community guidelines and recommendations to help prevent the occurrence of swine influenza (H1N1). Officials urge the campus community to be aware of the symptoms and take general precautions.
Virginia Wesleyan has NOT received any reports of confirmed or suspected cases at the College. However, the College is encouraging everyone to follow the easy and everyday actions recommended by the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) and the Center for Disease Control (CDC).
Practice Good Hygiene
- Cough or sneeze into your sleeve or use a tissue to cover your nose
and mouth. - Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth. Germs spread that way.
- Avoid close contact with sick people.
Take Action
- Faculty, staff and students should stay home from work or school and limit contact with others if you develop any fever or flu-like symptoms.
- Call your doctor or Heath Services (455.3108) immediately if you have fever or flu-like symptoms.
- Students not taking summer classes are urged to leave campus to return home immediately following the end of final examinations. So-called "social distancing" helps control infectious disease outbreaks.
