May 4, 2009: Veteran Broadcaster To Address Virginia Wesleyan's Class Of 2009

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Norfolk/Virginia Beach, Va. – Cathy Lewis, veteran broadcaster in the Hampton Roads area and founding host of "HearSay with Cathy Lewis" on 89.5 WHRV-FM, will address the Class of 2009 at Virginia Wesleyan's annual Commencement on Saturday, May 16.

An estimated two hundred seventy seniors are expected to receive their diplomas at the College's 40th commencement ceremony, held at 11 a.m. in the Jane P. Batten Student Center at Virginia Wesleyan College.

In 1996, Lewis launched "HearSay with Cathy Lewis" and the program quickly became a must for those with a message for Hampton Roads. President Barack Obama appeared on the broadcast during his presidential campaign and six Virginia governors along with members of the Hampton Roads congressional delegation have appeared regularly.

Best known for her ability to connect with listeners, Lewis was named one of the "50 Very Important People in Hampton Roads" by Hampton Roads Magazine and is a favorite in reader polls in other publications. In 2008, Lewis developed the concept for What Matters. The program quickly found a following in the Friday night public affairs line-up on WHRO-DT 15.1.

Within the community, Lewis has served as Executive Director of the CIVIC Leadership Institute since 2001, developing the program from its early days into a robust, significant organization that brings together high-level leaders from the public and private sectors in service to Hampton Roads. She is also a member of the Board of Directors for Habitat for Humanity South Hampton Roads and served two terms as President of the Board of Trustees of The Williams School.

Lewis is married to The Rev. Win Lewis and has one daughter, Anna.
