Apr 1, 2009: Raising Money By Dancing

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Norfolk/Virginia Beach, Va. – Virginia Wesleyan College's Dancing with the Professors Season 2 event on Saturday, March 28 was a success, raising a total of $3,392 to support the College's drive to become Phi Beta Kappa. All proceeds from the event will be used to purchase books for the Hofheimer Library.

"The success surpassed my highest expectations," said Student Government Association (SGA) President Leah Hammond '09 from Edgewater, Md. "We had a great response from the campus and the community."

SGA announced that at least 539 people were in attendance to see the 20 participants, ten students and ten professors, show off their well-rehearsed dance moves. Dances featured in the event included the cha cha, rumba, sumba, fox trot, mambo, tango, swing and waltz.

Associate Dean of Students and Director of the Jane P. Batten Student Center Lina Green and J.R. Ennis '10

Professor of Spanish Dr. Mavel Velasco and Brian Conner '09

The Virginia Wesleyan College Key to the Future Campaign has as its goal to help fund the vision to become a Phi Beta Kappa-caliber college. The Campaign is at $52.4 million on a goal of $65 million, 80% of goal.
