Oct 10, 2008: Virginia Wesleyan Welcomes Director Of Sustainability And Energy

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Norfolk/Virginia Beach, Va. – Virginia Wesleyan College welcomes Kerry D. Brackett as the College's first Director of Sustainability and Energy. He began his position on Monday, Oct. 6.

Front Line Manager for ARAMARK Higher Education, Brackett has been placed at Virginia Wesleyan College, and his position with the College is being paid for by ARAMARK for one year. He will have direct communication with Virginia Wesleyan President Dr. William T. "Billy" Greer and will report to Vice President of Operations Bruce Vaughan.

Brackett is responsible for leading Virginia Wesleyan's greening effort, connecting stakeholders and overseeing the energy management program on campus. He will work closely with the physical plant to minimize the energy usage on campus, and other departments including the Office of Community Service and Student Activities. Brackett's office is located in the Office of Community Service in the Jane P. Batten Student Center so that he may be in close proximity to Virginia Wesleyan students who he will interact with on a daily basis.

Brackett's specific duties include coordinating and developing sustainable programs, integrating greening efforts into campus culture, leading grant writing efforts in the area of campus sustainability, being a key resource person for student groups interested in the environment and serving on the President's Environmental Issues Council, acting as the President's project manager.

"Having Kerry Brackett at Virginia Wesleyan College is a critical next step in our journey toward sustainability and greenness," said President Billy Greer. "We are all deeply indebted to ARAMARK for making this position possible for the College. In this kind of economy, we could have not afforded to have Kerry at Virginia Wesleyan, and for that we are very appreciative of ARAMARK's generosity."

Brackett is knowledgeable in the field of Plant Operations with a specific interest in sustainability and energy. He previously worked for his alma mater, Berea College, Berea, Ky., in the Plant Operations Department.

"We brought Kerry to Virginia Wesleyan to further jump start the sustainability efforts on campus and to assist in monitoring our programs," said Vaughan. "We are excited to have him as part of our campus community."

Virginia Wesleyan College and ARAMARK have been partners for more than seventeen years. While managing the physical plant operations during that time, ARAMARK has been instrumental in the construction of fifteen buildings on the College campus.

Brackett is married and has one child. He and his family reside in Norfolk, Va.
