In July 2008, Virginia Wesleyan College welcomed four new members to the Board of Trustees. Additionally, three past members returned to the Board and one Board member was named Trustee Emeritus. Virginia Wesleyan thanks these members for their time and contributions to the College.

Deborah (Deb) H. Butler

Deborah (Deb) Butler was named executive vice president planning and chief information officer at Norfolk Southern Corp., effective June 1, 2007. Deb joined Norfolk Southern in 1978 as a customer account auditor. She served in positions of increasing responsibility in operations before being named assistant vice president transportation customer services in 2000 and vice president customer service in 2002. Deb is a graduate of Agnes Scott College and currently is attending the Advanced Management Program at Harvard. In her new position, she will head Norfolk Southern's strategic planning and information technology initiatives, reporting to Chief Executive Officer Wick Moorman and headquartered in Norfolk.
Kevin C. Dolliver '87

Kevin graduated from Virginia Wesleyan College in 1987 with a bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts and Business Management. While attending college, he served as president of Kappa Alpha fraternity. Kevin has served on the Alumni Board of Directors since 2004; he has served as secretary, First Vice-President and will be president for two years, 2008-2010. Kevin has worked in the mortgage field for 15 years, most recently with Chevy Chase Bank and Winstar Mortgage Partners. He served in the Virginia National Guard for 10 years as a Platoon Sergeant Forward Observer. Kevin resides in Richmond, Va. His appointment to the Board of Trustees will coincide with his presidency of the Alumni Association which ends in June 2010.
Steven D. Fredrickson

Steve is president and CEO of Portfolio Recovery Associates. Steve was born in Colorado but grew up in Chicago, Ill. He attended the University of Denver, a Methodist college, where both his parents were alumni, and went on to get an MBA from the University of Illinois. Steve began his career at Continental Bank in Chicago. A near bankruptcy there created the opportunity to learn about recovering bad debt. He moved to Household Finance in Virginia Beach, Va., in the early 90s. In 1996, Steve raised venture capital and started Portfolio Recovery, now traded on the NASDAQ. He currently has 1600 employees.
The Reverend Bradford L. Phillips

Brad is is superintendent of the Norfolk District United Methodist Church (UMC). He is an Ohio native who completed his undergraduate degree at Virginia Tech and earned a Master of Divinity from Eastern Mennonite Seminary. Brad's previous appointments include: associate at Asbury UMC, Harrisonburg; Remington Charge, Alexandria District; Providence UMC, Peninsula District; Huntington Court UMC, Roanoke District; Deep Creek UMC, Portsmouth District; Herndon UMC, Arlington District. His past conference-level service includes the Board of Discipleship, where he was evangelism chair, and the Committee on Religion and Race. He has also served on several district-level boards. Brad is married to Kay, and they have two grown sons and two granddaughters.
