The Wesleyan Activities Council (WAC) is in its second year of providing fun, informational, educational and exciting activities for students of all ages both on and off campus. What started off as an idea to get students more involved with the college experience has now become a huge hit with the student body.
"Most of our performers have requested to return to our campus because of the great turnouts we get and the interaction with our students," said Kristen Whalen, assistant dean of students for student activities and Greek life. Whalen, along with Lina Green, associate dean of students and director of the Jane P. Batten Student Center came up with the idea of WAC.
This fall WAC has brought a variety of performers to campus of Virginia Wesleyan College. Over Homecoming & Family Weekend 2007 comedian Josh Casey performed along with the a cappella band INPULSE. "Showtime at the Batten" returned again this year, with the addition of Salsa Magic Dancing, Beijing opera, Tales from the Beijing Opera and V-games Laser Tag.
Upcoming events sponsored by WAC include:
- Marlin Madness at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 16
- Panhellenic Sorority Social at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 29
- Coffee House featuring Tom Wehrle at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 30
- Dance Off! At 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1
Students who would like get involved with WAC are encouraged to fill out an application at the Student Activities Office, located in the Jane P. Batten Student Canter across from the Mail & Copy Center. The only requirement for joining WAC is that a student must have energy and passion for campus events and activities, and must serve as a committee member to be eligible for the executive board, director, and co-director position.
WAC is funded by the Student Activities Fee, an annual fee paid by all students.
