New Board of Trustees Members

In July 2007, Virginia Wesleyan College welcomed five new members to the Board of Trustees. Additionally, new officers were named for the upcoming year, four past members returned to the Board and three Board members were named Trustees Emeriti. Virginia Wesleyan College thanks these members for their time and contributions to the College.

Dale Foley

Dale R. Foley earned a mechanical engineering degree at Clarkson College of Technology. Dale is a classic entrepreneur. He launched the company that would become Virginia Crane when he was 25 years old. Located in Ashland, Va., the company has 110 employees and builds cranes (huge lift systems) that are sold throughout North America. Dale's oldest son, Ben, is a '04 Virginia Wesleyan graduate. His youngest son, Nick, is in the Class of 2008 at the College.

William (Billy) W. Granger III

William (Billy) W. Granger III is the son of former Board of Trustees member, William W. Granger, Jr. He is Managing Partner of Granger Investment Properties LLC and is Director of Corporate Development for ValueOptions. Billy received his degree from the College of Wooster. He and his wife, DiDi, have two children, who both attend Norfolk Collegiate School.

Ron Kramer

Ronald M. Kramer is the President of Kramer Tire Company, which is Virginia's largest distributor of Goodyear Tires. The company has 19 retail locations and employs more than 200 people. Ron attended the University of Richmond. His wife is Cynthia R. Kramer and his stepson, William C. Ryan, is in the Class of 2009 at the College.

Louis Ryan

Louis F. Ryan is the retired Executive Vice President/General Counsel for Landmark Communications. He received his undergraduate degree from Princeton University and his law degree from the University of Virginia. Louis serves on the Board of Directors of the Norfolk Foundation, ACCESS College Foundation, Elizabeth River Project, Norfolk International Airport where he serves as Vice Chair, YMCA of South Hampton Roads, St. Christopher School and the Chesapeake Bay Wine Classic Foundation. He also serves on the Chesapeake Bay Foundation Advisory Council. His wife is Prudence Elwell Hartshorn Ryan.

Bill Thumel

William H. Thumel, Jr. owned Abacus Business Services, a temp agency. He sold the business a few years ago and is now in the antique racing cars business. He has served on the board of Norfolk Catholic. Bill's wife, Kim, owns In Your Own Skin, a skin therapy center in the corridor of medial facilities near Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital.
