Are your kids looking to improve their sports skills? Send them to Virginia Wesleyan for some fun and fundamentals at one of the Blue Marlin sports camps offered this summer! Open to a variety of ages and skill levels, Marlin camps feature some of the best college coaches in the country, in addition to a host of talented college athletes and some of the finest athletic facilities in Division III.
Baseball
The 2005 Blue Marlin Summer Baseball Camps are comprised of nine top-notch instructional camps for boys and girls of all ages, levels, positions and abilities. Camps will be held at the baseball complex on the campus of Virginia Wesleyan. Camps include Blue Marlin Day Camp (June 20-24 and August 8-12), Hitting Camp (July 11-15), Pitcher/Catcher Camp (August 1), All-Star and AAU Camp (July 18-22), Infielder Camp (August 2), Outfielder Camp (August 3), Showcase Testing Camp (August 4) and Father and Son Camp (August 13 and 14).
Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball
Each session is designed to provide exclusive one-on-one instruction from top college coaches and players while having fun and learning the basic fundamental skills and team concepts of competitive basketball. The goal is to make each player a better player, and to experience a fun week of playing basketball. Open to all levels, ages 6 to 17, the 2005 Blue Marlin Basketball Camp will be held in the $18.6 million Jane P. Batten Student Center on the Virginia Wesleyan campus. (Three sessions: June 20-24, July 18-22, August 8-12.)
Girls’ Basketball
Open to girls grades 4 to 12, the 2005 Marlin Girls’ Basketball Camp offers individual attention while players participate in both offensive and defensive station work. Campers will also compete in various team and individual competitions throughout the week. Emphasis is on having fun while improving as a basketball player. (One session: June 27 - July 1.)
Lacrosse
The 2005 Marlin day camp, for boys ages 8 to 18, provides the best lacrosse instruction in Tidewater with an emphasis on fun. Each day is structured so that campers receive individual and team instruction as different aspects of the game are covered. Campers are divided into age groups and taught according to their abilities. Players of all skill levels are welcome. (Two sessions: June 20-23, July 25-28.)
Soccer
Open to boys and girls of all skill levels ages 6 to 16, the 2005 Marlin Soccer Camps are developmental camps that will be grouped by age and ability and will target the serious soccer player (advanced through travel level). All phases of the game are covered, with emphasis on technique (skills) and understanding the game through tactics. Goalkeepers will receive special instruction each day. (Two sessions: July 11-15, August 8-12.)
Softball
The Lady Marlins Softball Camp is a day camp for all positions, including pitching and catching. Camp will run in two sessions: June 20-24 for girls 8-12 years old, and July 25-29 for girls 13-18, including all high school seniors. Camp will be held at the Virginia Wesleyan College softball complex.
Girls’ Volleyball
Open to girls grades 6 to 12, the 2005 Marlin Volleyball Camp will focus on both individual skills training and tem competition throughout the week. Campers will be placed within appropriate skill level groups for individual training. Individual skills training to be covered includes passing, attacking, serving, setting and blocking. (Two sessions: July 25-29, August 1-5.)
