Friday, October 5

Get on board with the Homecoming Parade
1:30 p.m., Grand Central (Jane P. Batten Student Center) Sidewalk
Your journey begins with plenty of Marlin spirit at this global parade featuring athletic teams, student organizations and even the faculty/staff and their pets.

Autobahn to Bavaria
Oktoberfest Dinner

5:30-7 p.m., Boyd Dining Center
Your next stop is Bavaria for an Oktoberfest celebration. Experience a traditional German meal with spaetzel, braised red cabbage, hot German potato salad, Brussel sprouts, knockwurst with sauerkraut, sauerbraten, apple strudel, German chocolate cake, and a selection of German beers. Enjoy festive music, singing and dancing. Reservations are required for all passengers. No additional charge for VWC students. Sponsored by the German Club.  

Stop over with the Cavani String Quartet
7:30 p.m., Hofheimer Theatre
The Virginia Wesleyan Concert Series presents the Cavani String Quartet. Since their New York debut in 1987, they have won the hearts of audiences across the country with their soulful and riveting performances. Tickets are $8 adults, students and military and free to VWC students, faculty and staff. For reservations and additional information call 757.455.2101.

Movie on the Lawn
9 p.m., Batten Center Lawn
After a busy day of seeing the sights, prop your feet up and unwind with a movie. Popcorn, snacks and drinks.

Experience or re-experience college life by attending a 30-minute presentation featuring Virginia Wesleyan's creative faculty doing what they do best – teaching!  

Fare Finder
Faculty Reception and Department Fair

10:30-11:30 a.m., Grand Central (Batten Center Convocation Hall)
This one-way trip allows parents to become acquainted with the Virginia Wesleyan faculty, to learn more about their fields and the classes they teach. Faculty will be grouped in the Convocation Hall by division – Humanities, Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Social Sciences. Alumni are also invited to come and reconnect with their favorite VWC professors!

Homecoming Tailgate

12-4:30 p.m., Trinder Center Lawn
Sponsored by the Alumni Association.
Hang on to your seats as your journey heads for fun and excitement with friends and family at Trinder Lawn. Catch the spirit with food, music and drinks. There will be games and activities for young and old, plus gathering areas for various groups including the Class of 1997, Greeks, parents, former RAs and more. Picnic lunch from 12 – 4 p.m. No additional charge for VWC students. Single ticket cost: $7.35 at the walk up table. Stop by the Alumni Associations Beverage Tent for an ice-cold beverage or two! Must be 21 or older to purchase alcoholic beverages.

Head for the main tent, and catch up with friends and former classmates from the Class of 1997.

Sponsored by the Wesleyan Activities Council. This always-formal affair will take place in downtown Norfolk at the Waterside Marriott. Students may purchase tickets in the Student Activities Office or online.

Passport to Travel

A Passport to Travel will provide admission to all Homecoming & Family Weekend 2007 events except for the Virginia Wesleyan Concert Series. Registered guests will be given their passport upon check-in at the Hub in the Jane P. Batten Student Center. Guests planning to attend the Homecoming Tailgate ONLY may pay for food at the table on Saturday, Oct. 6., and are encouraged to pre-register online or call the Office of Alumni Relations at 757.455.3298.

Canned Food Drive - Bring A Can If You Can


Virginia Wesleyan's Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) is holding a canned food drive, Bring A Can If You Can. SAAC will be collecting canned foods during all athletic events over Homecoming Weekend, and in the Jane P. Batten Student Center. All students, faculty, staff and alumni are invited to participate. The canned food will be given to local homeless shelters.
