The Rev. Scott E. Davis '84

The Rev. Scott E. Davis '84

The Rev. Scott E. Davis '84, is pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church in Alexandria, Va., where he has served for ten years. He received his M. Div. from the Candler School of Theology at Emory University in 1987. For nine years, Davis served as Chaplain at Virginia Wesleyan College and was pastor of Nimmo United Methodist Church in Virginia Beach for two years. In the summer of 2007, he and his family participated in a ministerial exchange program coordinated by the World Methodist Council. For six weeks, the Davis family swapped congregations, houses and cars with a British Methodist pastor and lived in Wilmslow, England.

Reunion 2009 and Facebook!
You may have noticed that Virginia Wesleyan has been helping alumni connect through Facebook. This year the Alumni Association is trying to expand on their success with social networking and promote Reunion 2009 to its Facebook friends and fans. All alumni are welcome to organize a reunion group (for example Soccer Alumni from N.J., Alumni Cheerleaders, or Gum Hall 1987-1991). Interested alumni should contact the Alumni Relations Office at alumni@vwc.edu or 757.455.2115 to register and secure a reserved space at the alumni tailgate on Saturday, Oct. 3!

It's time to Dig...through those Scrapbooks and Yearbooks
Virginia Wesleyan College's Athletic Hall of Fame Committee is accepting nominations for the second class now through August 31. The College calls on former athletes and alumni to look at their scrapbooks and yearbooks for nominees. Make a nomination online, or contact Lisa Black, director of alumni relations, at lblack@vwc.edu or 757.455.2115. The 2010 Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Luncheon will be held Saturday, Jan. 23.

Class Notes

Lynn (Downey) Aydlett (1993) graduated in July 2009 with a Masters Degree in Elementary Education from Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. She currently teaches second grade at West Lenoir Elementary in Lenoir, North Carolina.

 

Bruce Goodson (1979) was named the 4ward Hampton Roads Local Elected Official as part of the 4ward Hampton Roads 2009 Leadership Awards. Bruce was recognized for his accomplishments and leadership on the James City County Board of Supervisors.  

 

Kathryn Fisher (1993) was interviewed along with featured artist Will Corr (1994) during this year's Boardwalk Art Show by VBTV's Access Virginia Beach. The program was filmed in the front lawn of the Old Coast Guard Station. The program is featured online (Show V20 #48, AV377009, 06/19/09). This edition of “Access Virginia Beach” and three others are available online at www.vbgov.com/estream. Click on the most recent version of “Access Virginia Beach” in :Access Virginia Beach Archives." Once the show comes up, you can jump right to the story of your choice by clicking "View Specific Segments for this video." Shows will be online for the 4 weeks following their start date.  

 

Coast Guard Seaman Candice N. Whitney (2006) recently graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Recruit Training Center in Cape May, N. J. During the eight-week training program, Whitney completed a vigorous training curriculum consisting of academics and practical instruction on water safety and survival, military customs and courtesies, seamanship skills, first aid, fire fighting and marksmanship.

 

Jacob Plett (2001) has accepted a Support Coordinator Position at Partnerships for Community Supports located in Philadelphia, PA.
