Research: It's not just for grad students
While writing papers and spending time in the lab are traditional elements of the undergraduate experience, Virginia Wesleyan's students are traveling the globe to produce original research. The Fourth Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium showcased student research, April 27 – May 1.

Saying goodbye to staff members
After 21 years of service, Lina Green, associate dean of students, will leave Virginia Wesleyan in June for Green Bay, Wis. After 12 years of service, the College's Chaplain, The Rev. Robert "Chappy" Chapman, will leave in June to assume a new charge on the Eastern Shore. The College wishes both staff members all the best in their future endeavors.

Save the Date: Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony
The date for the 2010 Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Luncheon has been set for Saturday, Jan. 23. The Athletic Hall of Fame was established to honor those who, by outstanding achievement, service or significant contributions to athletics, have made lasting contributions to Virginia Wesleyan's intercollegiate athletic program. The Athletic Hall of Fame Committee is accepting nominations for the next class now through August 31. Those inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame will be permanently recognized in the Athletic Hall of Fame installation, located adjacent to the entrance of the Jane P. Robert Kohler '93

Robert Kohler '93

Robert Kohler '93 is Vice President and part owner of CraneTech Solutions, LLC, based in Portsmouth, Va. Since graduating from Virginia Wesleyan, Rob has worked in sales for various companies ranging from telephone systems, construction equipment to port equipment. He and his wife, Betty "Winkie" Malpass Kohler '91, like to spend time with their two children, Lance, 6, and Anya, 4, and enjoy going to the beach, boating and attending local arts events. In his work, Rob travels frequently to Germany and Holland. "I'm still benefiting from the language skills I acquired as a German major at Virginia Wesleyan," he said.

9th Annual Scholarship Auction & Party a Success!
More than 110 Virginia Wesleyan alumni, faculty and friends enjoyed a night of great food, music and fantastic auction items while honoring alumni award winners Angela Ward Costello '87, Martine Green '02, Charles Cassidy, Jr. '92 and the late Kevin L. Clary '84. Proceeds from the event benefit the Alumni Association's Legacy Endowed Scholarship, which is awarded each year to a child of a Virginia Wesleyan alumnus.

Class Notes

Suzanne Marquess (1975) recently completed marquetry work on a guitar (see attached picture).

Christine (Langsam) Williams (1997) was recently promoted to the designation of Director as a result of her experience at the bar, significant legal assignments, and client development and/or seniority. Christine practices primarily in the areas of commercial and complex litigation and appellate work. She has been recognized by her peers in Legal Elite and Super Lawyers Rising Stars for her work in litigation. She is also a member of the prestigious John Marshall Inn of Court. Christine is one of Durrette Bradshaw's representatives to the XDL Group, Multidimensional IP Advocates.

Spencer Morgenthau (2001) has recently earned the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design - Accredited Professional (LEED AP) certification from the US Green Building Council.

Michael Heyer (2002) and Sarah Heyer are proud to announce the birth of a baby boy, Cormac Seamus Heyer. He was born on February 12, 2009.

Victoria Brynildsen (2008) and Robert Weber are happy to announce their engagement. The wedding ceremony will take place on June 4, in Chesapeake, VA.
