Raising Money by Dancing
Dancing with the Professors raised more than $2,000 to support the College's drive to become Phi Beta Kappa on Saturday, March 29. All proceeds from the event will be used to purchase books for the Hofheimer Library.
Psychology Careers Panel Discussion
A panel of professionals who graduated with a degree in psychology will talk about their how their degree prepared them for their present occupation in career fields such as Attorney, Chiropractor, College Instructor, Rehabilitation Counselor and School Psychologist. 11 a.m. Thursday, April 10 in Clarke Hall, Room 118. Going to College with the Adult Studies Program
The Adult Studies Program at Virginia Wesleyan College is holding an information session for adults interested in going to College at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 1 in Clarke Hall. This information session will cover topics such as degree programs offered, tips for success, learning support available for non-traditional students, credit transfers, guaranteed admission for Virginia community college students, employer tuition deferral programs, financial aid options and how to enroll. Eight Students attend United Nations Conference
Eight students, along with Dr. Laura Landolt, assistant professor of political science, traveled to New York City to attend the National Model United Nations (NMUN) Conference from March 18 - 22. Sarah Tytler, Ryan Gillespie, Jennifer Rivas, Marisa Postma, Melissa Hendricks, Amber Ramsey, Lauren Stroyeck and Jessie Dawe represented the country of Tunisia.
Student awarded GEICO Scholarship
Junior Kelly Menning of Pittsville, Md., was awarded GEICO's $1,000 Achievement Award scholarship. The scholarship is awarded based on faculty nominations by the College's department of Management/Business/Economics. She will be recognized with the other award recipients at an Achievement Award breakfast and awards ceremony on Friday, April 18.

Julie (Brown) Swain '90
Julie (Brown) Swain '90 is in her sixth year as head field hockey coach at Frank W. Cox High School in Virginia Beach, Va. A graduate of Cox High School, she coached the junior varsity program at the school for twelve years prior to becoming head coach. Julie also teaches math at Cox and coaches the field hockey program at Great Neck Middle School. The Cox field hockey team won the last two VHSL State Championships. Julie received the AAA Coach of the Year award and was named Outstanding Metropolitan Scholastic Coach by the Norfolk Sports Club. The Cox High School field hockey team and Julie were honored by the Virginia General Assembly in February of 2008. She and her husband, Steven, have a nine-month-old baby girl, Aubrey Anne.

Book Benefit for Anonymous Angels Fund
A book sale will be held to benefit the VWC Anonymous Angels Fund, an ongoing program designed to assist all members of the community who have a short-term emergency need. The book sale will be held April 10 and 11 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. and April 12 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. in the Hofheimer Library. Cost is $2 for paperbacks and $5 for hardbacks. Thomas Taylor (2000) and Lee Taylor are proud to announce the birth of a baby girl, Eleanor Lee "Ellee" Taylor. She was born on August 2, 2007 in Virginia Beach, Va., and weighed 8 lb., 11 oz. Sydeny (11) and Macy (5) couldn't be happier to have a new sister.
Thomas Taylor (2000) was recently promoted from Assistant Principal of Landstown High School in Virginia Beach, Va., to Principal of Charlottesville High School, located in Charlottesville, Va.
Nicole Knight (2005) writes, "Nicole M. Knight was promoted to Publications Designer in the Regent University Creative Marketing Department. She has a large role in the design of Regent University’s Christian Leader alumni magazine, is the designer of the KeyNote publication and works on a wide variety or other projects."
Nicole (Letourneau) Cavanaugh (1994) and Matthew Cavanaugh are proud to announce the birth of a baby boy, Jonah Thomas. He was born on December 20, 2007 and weighed 7 lb., 11 oz.
Anne (Hardman) Wert (1990) and Joseph Wert are proud to announce the birth of a baby boy, Christopher Elijah. He was born on August 30, 2006 in Oahu, Hawaii.
