Bits and Blurbs

Passport Fair
The Office of International and Intercultural Programs (OIP) and the Mail and Copy Center will hold a Passport Fair from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 24. Stations will be set up for individuals to fill out passport paperwork and have their photo taken. This event is open to the public. Reservations are not required, but strongly encouraged. For more information, contact the OIP at 757.455.3116.

Artisans Expo
The first Artisans Expo to create a new and permanent scholarship for the Adult Studies Program (ASP) will be held on Saturday, Nov. 3 – 4. A preview party will be held from 6 - 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2. For more information, contact the ASP at 757.455.3263 or asp@vwc.edu.

Annual Fund for Academic Excellence
The Annual Fund for Academic Excellence Student Phonathon just began its fourth year of operation. Seven students are eager to call alumni, parents and friends of the College. Please welcome their phone calls and feel free to ask the student that calls you about his or her experience at the College. Bruce C. Goodson

Bruce C. Goodson '79

Bruce C. Goodson '79, is serving his second term on the James City County Board of Supervisors representing the Roberts District. Bruce served as chairman of the board in 2004 and 2006. He is vice chairman of the Hampton Roads Planning District Commission and the Metropolitan Planning Organization. For many years, Bruce has volunteered his time with Rotary International and currently is a member of the Williamsburg Rotary. Bruce is president of Diamond/Goodson Equipment Corporation, a regional industrial equipment dealer with locations in Norfolk, Va. and Richmond, Va. A long-time proponent of regionalism, Bruce is shown in the photo signing a proclamation declaring 2007 the Year of the Region.

Preview Reception: Artisans Expo 
All Alumni, particularly Adult Studies Program Alumni, and friends of the College are invited to attend a Preview Reception for the Artisans Expo on Friday, Nov. 2 from 6 – 8 p.m. in the C-MAC of the Jane P. Batten Student Center. For $25 per person, attendees will receive hors d'hoeuvres and have the opportunity to mingle with other Alumni while previewing the work of more than 40 local artists and artisans, representing a variety of media. All Alumni Association members will receive FREE admission to the Artisans Expo on Saturday, Nov. 3 and Sunday, Nov. 4! Register for the Preview Reception today!

Art Alumni Exhibition
Virginia Wesleyan Art Alumni are invited to participate in the first Art Alumni Exhibition beginning Friday, Nov. 15 through Friday, Jan. 11, with an opening reception at 4:30 p.m. on November 15. All media are welcome. Interested Alumni should contact Robyn Bailey at 757.464.6335 or heronshope@cox.net.

Alumni volunteer opportunities
Are you interested in providing internship opportunities for Virginia Wesleyan students? Or maybe you would rather assist with Alumni events? Simply print the volunteer form, complete it and fax or mail it back to the Alumni Office. Volunteers are needed to serve on career panels, assist with mock interviews, call accepted students and greet fellow Alumni at Alumni Association events. No previous experience or involvement is required!

Class Notes

Christina (Wingert) Blagg (1996) and Adam Blagg (1995) are proud to announce the birth of a baby boy, Micah James. He was born on October 1, 2007 in Harrisonburg, VA, and weighed 8 lb., 3 oz.

Rex Hamaker (2004) recently accepted a position at University Preparatory Program of Al Faisal University located in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia as an English Instructor. He graduated from ODU with an MA in Applied Linguistics.  

Joseph Harris (1994) recently accepted a position at Resource Mortgage located in Virginia Beach, VA as senior vice president. Joseph recently was employed at Countrywide Mortgage as regional vice president.  

Nancy (Mattox) Moore (2000) was recently promoted to Senior Analyst of Online Marketing at Circuit City located in Richmond, VA. Nancy resides in New Kent, Virginia with her husband Eric and her daughter, Rachel who is 2 years old.  

Robyn (Snyder) Wood (1999) and Pete Wood are proud to announce the birth of a baby boy, Matthew Everett Wood. He was born on July 28, 2007. He is also welcomed by his sister, Rachael Elizabeth, who will turn three on November 22, 2007.
