  • Stan Pearson Retires after 26 years.
  • 2007 Commencement - 280 seniors received their diplomas at Virginia Wesleyan's 38th Commencement on Saturday, May 12. Mr. R. James Woolsey, Jr., former director of the Central Intelligence Agency and Vice President for Booz Allen Hamilton, addressed the Class of 2007 and left graduates with thoughtful words about the future possibilities for security and energy, and the importance of creativity and innovation.
  • Dr. William Milton Jones, longtime friend and beloved professor of the College passed away on May 14 at his home in Larchmont (Norfolk, Va.). He was known for his devotion to his students, for his wit and the breadth of his knowledge, and for using film clips in every course he taught. Because of Bill's lifelong dedication to education, Alumni Parents and Friends may support the William Milton Jones Endowment to fund a permanent scholarship for a public school student from Hampton Roads to attend Virginia Wesleyan. Friends may make a contribution to Jones Endowment, Virginia Wesleyan College, 1584 Wesleyan Drive, Norfolk, VA 23502.
  • Virginia Wesleyan is hosting the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce "Business After Hours" networking event again this summer and all alumni are invited! All pre-registered alumni and and their guests will be admitted FREE of charge - so register online today! The event will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 19 in the Pearce Hospitality Suite of the Jane P. Batten Student Center. Don't miss your chance to mingle with other Hampton Roads professionals.
  • Are your kids looking to improve their sports skills? Send them to Virginia Wesleyan for some fun and fundamentals at one of the 2007 Summer Sports Camps! Open to a variety of ages and skill levels, Marlin camps feature some of the best college coaches in the country, in addition to a host of talented college athletes and some of the finest athletic facilities in Division III.
  • Need an airline ticket to Boston or New York? How about a night out for sushi? These and other auction
    items from the 7th Annual Alumni Auction & Party are still up for bid online! The Alumni Office will accept blind, confidential bids on these items until 4:30 p.m. pm Friday, June 15. Visit the Web site for more details.
  • Graduates of the Class of 2006 will lose their VWC E-mail account this July. Don't worry though, as
    Graduates
    the Alumni Association will provide you with a permanent, FREE E-mail account. Sign up today to stay in touch with friends and professors from the College.
  • Time is running out! Make your gift to the Annual Fund for Academic Excellence by June 30 to be listed on the 2006-2007 honor roll of donors. Gifts to the Annual Fund support scholarships, technology upgrades and additions, and provide resources for students and faculty to conduct research projects and present them in a professional environment, like at the second annual VWC Academic Fair held in April.   • Mark your calendar now! Homecoming and Family Weekend 2007 will be held Oct. 5-7. The classes of '97 and '82 will be celebrating their 10-year and 25-year reunions, respectively. Marlin
  • Baseball - Seniors Matt Hudgins and Chris Rivera received the top two awards presented by the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) - the first in Virginia Wesleyan College's Baseball history. Hudgins, a catcher, has been named the ODAC Player of the Year and Rivera has been named the Pitcher of the Year. Hudgins was also named second-team All-American by the Rawlings/American Baseball Coaches Association - the first Marlin player to receive this award since Gary Sasser's third-team honors in 1994. Rivera also received second-team All-South recognition.
  • Men's Lacrosse - Five players received All-ODAC and All-Virginia honors including senior Todd Evans and junior Brett Morris, first team All-ODAC and All-Virginia; senior Mike Canino, second team All-ODAC and All-Virginia; junior Jordan Kenney; second team All-Virginia; and sophomore Drew Langis, ODAC honorable mention.
  • Women's Lacrosse - Five players received All-ODAC honors including junior Jillian Boyd, first team; and rookie Laura Norris and sophomores KC Marchwicki, Aimee Sraver and Bethany Adomanis, honorable mention. This was Boyd's third consecutive year receiving first team honors, making her the sixth woman in the history of Virginia Wesleyan’s ten-year Women’s Lacrosse program to receive the award three years in a row. Boyd was also named to the All-Chesapeake Region second team, as selected by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association.
  • Men's Tennis - Seniors Eric Caudill and Jeff Zenisek were the first men's double team in program history to qualify for the NCAA's Division III national championship tournament. The duo closed their season ranked No. 3 in the South Region and earned a place in history as members of the Virginia Sports Information Director's inaugural men's all-state tennis team. Individually, Caudill is ranked No. 13 among the region's top single players.

NEW! Featured Alumnus: Robert MacDonald '86

Robert MacDonald

Robert MacDonald '86 is a partner with MacDonald, Plumlee and Overton law firm in Chesapeake,Va. For the last eight years he has been a substitute judge for the Commonwealth of Virginia. To make a difference in his community, MacDonald served as chairman of (CHIP) (Chesapeake Health Investment Program) Healthy Families. CHIP is responsible for increasing access to health care for thousands of low-income children and their families through partnerships with local communities. Rob and his wife, Diane, have three children, Megan, Molly, and Matthew. He serves as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors for StoneBridge School in Chesapeake, Va.
