Marriages and Births

  • Melissa (Pennell) Cantrell '93 and her husband, Art, welcomed a daughter, Autumn Bailey Cantrell, 6
    Mackin
    pounds 5 ounces on Feb. 8, 2007. The couple resides in Tuscon, Ariz.
  • Matthew Mackin '97 and his wife, Lisa, welcomed a daughter, Ava Grace Mackin, 7 pounds 10 ounces on Nov. 14, 2006 (pictured). This is the couple's first child. They reside in Southbridge, Mass.
  • Christine (Langsam) Williams '97 and her husband welcomed a son, Hudson Anthony Williams, 6 pounds 12 ounces on Jan. 12, 2007. The couple resides in Richmond, Va. Hudson joins big brother, Walker.

  • Alicia (Myers) Newman '99 and her husband, Kristopher, welcomed a daughter, Emily Claire Newman on April 12, 2007 (pictured).
  • Patricia (Caron) Babbit '02 and her husband, Homer Babbitt '00, welcomed a son, Homer Almon "Joseph" Babbitt, 6 pounds 13 ounces on April 21, 2007. This is the couple's first child.

 

Personal Updates

  • Mark Butts '79 was named the Sportsperson of the Year at the 54th annual Virginia Beach Sports Club Jamboree in April 2007. He is the boys basketball coach at First Colonial High School.
  • Rachel Vanek '80 has been working as a nurse practitioner for Pulmonary and Critical Care in the MICU at University Hospitals Case Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio since 1993.
  • Keith Kimball '86 is an Assistant Federal Public Defender in the City of Norfolk. He resides in Virginia Beach, Va., with his wife, Michelle.
  • James Keith ’90 is the Senior Regional Manager, First Vice President for Washington Mutual Bank, in Chicago, Ill. He was recently elected Chairman of the Education Foundation and Executive Officer of the board for the Illinois Business Round Table.
  • Isabel (Vaca) Valentini '92 is a pre-Kindergarten teacher at Star of the Sea Catholic School in Virginia Beach, Va. She resides with her husband, Giorgio, in Virginia Beach, Va.
  • Clayton Singleton '94 was one of 16 invited regional artists to take part in the exhibit "Art of Prominent African American Artists – 2007" at Selden Gallery in Norfolk, Va. His exhibit titled, "I Listen to My Inner Truth" is acrylic on wood and runs until May 28. He resides in Norfolk, Va.
  • Dona Sterling-Perdue '94 graduated from Norfolk State University with a Masters in Social Work. She is employed with Child and Adolescent Case Management, Hampton-Newport Community Services Board and was recently promoted to Clinical Services Supervisor.
  • Doug Kaufman '95 is the managing Investor Relations at a New York City based hedge fund and is pursuing a Masters degree in Leadership and Strategic Management at Manhattanville College.
  • Giorgio Carlo Valentini '98 is the Art Director and Marketing Designer for CONCOA, a global manufacturing company headquartered in Virginia Beach, Va., specializing in gas flow and distribution for the fabrication, biotechnology and laser industry.  He is also owner of Genesis Graphic Design, Inc., an advertising design firm based locally in Virginia Beach, Va.
  • Ian Bolling '99 was selected by the Virginia Business Magazine as a "legal elite" in the young lawyers division. He was one of three individuals selected from the Virginia Beach area. He resides in Virginia Beach, Va.
  • Homer Babbitt '00 is the Development Associate for WHRO-TV/FM, WHRV-FM. He resides in Chesapeake, Va.
  • Matt Hisler '01 has been named the new head women's soccer coach at Mount Olive College, N.C. He was previously the head men's soccer coach at the College of Mount Saint Vincent in Riverdale, N.Y. Hisler has coached in the Olympic Development Program in North Carolina and Virginia and holds a United States Soccer Federation (USSF) D National License, USSF B License, National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) National Diploma and NSCAA Advanced National Diploma.
  • Jacquelyn Griffin '04 is the Marketing Manager for Atrion Communications Resources, a network integration company, in Branchburg, N.J. She has been with the company for two and a half years.
  • Beverli Dewberry '05 graduated from Norfolk State University with a Master of Arts in Criminal Justice. She resides in Virginia Beach, Va.
  • Dan Pellegrino '05 is the Development Manager for United Way of South Hampton Roads. He resides in Norfolk, Va.
  • Andrew Voigt '05 is a Surgical Sales Representative for the Endoscopy division of Smith & Nephew. He resides in Virginia Beach, Va.
  • Heidi Watkins '07 was named to the Board of Portsmouth Volunteers for the Homeless. She is the youngest board member of the PVH and resides in Norfolk, Va.
  • Jennifer White '07 is the Coordinator of Leadership Programs for the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce. She resides in Norfolk, Va.

In Memoriam

  • Richard Nagler '75 passed away on Jan. 9, 2007 in his home in in Ft. Collins, Colo. He was a retired Virginia Senior Probation and Parole Officer and noted volunteer for the Hemophilia Association of the Capitol Area. Richard was a Psychology major at Virginia Wesleyan.
