Marriages and Births

  • Addie (Shankle) Besemer '98 and her husband, Derek, welcomed aRhyan Besemer daughter, 6-pound 11-ounce Rhyan Sunora Besemer (pictured), on Nov. 8, 2006. the couple resides in Fredericksburg, Va. Rhyan is their first child.
  • Rachel (Willis) Zelibor '04 and her husband, Mike, welcomed 8-Madison Zeliborpound 5-ounce Madison Johanna Zelibor (pictured) on Sept. 30, 2006. The couple were married on May 20, 2006 at Epworth United Methodist Church. Virginia Wesleyan alumnus Rev. Phyllis Earley performed the ceremony.

Personal Updates

  • Bob Gustafson '70 accepted a position as vice president of marketing and sales for Eimskip, an Iceland Steamship Line with worldwide container service. Their U.S. headquarters are located in Virginia Beach, Va.
  • J. Tim Bailey '83 was recently promoted to president of the Carolinas-Virginia Division of Canteen, a member of the Compass Group. Compass is the world's largest food service company, headquartered in the United Kingdom, with the America, headquarters in Charlotte, N.C. He has been employed by Compass for eleven years. He also serves as chairman of the board for Athletes United for Youth, a non-profit organization serving underprivileged youth in the Charlotte area, and coaches basketball and tennis for the Special Olympics. He resides in Charlotte, N.C.
  • Mike Kos '86 was promoted to Chesapeake regional president at Resource Bank. Mike lives in Chesapeake, Va.
  • Tom Palombo '89 was named the 2007 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Coach of the Year. Tom is the head men's basketball coach at Guilford College in Greensboro, N.C. He earned his 150th men's basketball coaching win in December and his 300th career win in 17 seasons as a head basketball coach in February.
  • Rob McMichael '92 is the Director of Human Resources for the eastern part of the United States for HSBC Bank. HSBC Bank is the third largest bank in the world. Rob works out of Pittsburgh and oversees approximately 80 branches. He lives in Cranberry Township, Pa.
  • Wendy Chai Gleich '98 received her Master's in Education from The Graduate School of The Ohio State University with a specialization in Drama, Language Arts, Children's Literature and Reading Education PK-12. She is the recent recipient of a Critical Difference for Women Fellowship award and was inducted into Pi Theta Lambda, the International Honor Society of Professional Educators. She recently accepted a promotion at St. Andrew School and will begin working in a fulltime position as the school's Coordinator of Enrichment/Gifted Programs. She and her husband, Kevin, live in Hilliard, Ohio.
  • Lindsey Reynolds '98 is the executive director for Democrats Abroad.
  • Andrea Provost '00 graduated in January from the Boston University School of Public Health with a master's degree in Public Health, with a concentration in international health. She currently works and lives in Boston.
  • Raye Jean McMichael '01 is a social studies teacher and the head varsity field hockey coach at Landstown High School in Virginia Beach, Va. She received her master's degree in special education from Regent University.
  • Jessica Rok '01 was promoted as the marketing and communications coordinator at Carnegie Learning, Inc. in Pittsburgh, Pa.
  • Bill Gobble '03 is a control accountant with American Funds in Norfolk, Va.  He resides in Norfolk, Va.
  • Dan Burrell '05 is a loan officer with Southern Trust Mortgage and is pursuing accreditation as a high school and undergraduate chemistry and biology tutor in the evenings. 
  • Caleb Hill '05 is an assistant recreation manager with Guest Services Inc.,  a management company that has a contract with the National Park Service.
  • Martha Blevins '06 is a development and operations associate with ACCESS College Foundation in Norfolk, Va. She resides in Virginia Beach, Va.
  • Zella Caynor '06 is an extensive markup language specialist with Harpweek LLC, in Norfolk, Va. She resides in Norfolk.
  • Riescha Curran '06 is a videographer/editor with Allied Video Productions in Chesapeake, Va. She resides in Portsmouth, Va.
  • Marques Fitch '06 is an account executive with The Virginian-Pilot in Norfolk, Va. He resides in Virginia Beach, Va.
  • Chris Horan '06 is an internal wholesaler with American Funds in Norfolk, Va. He resides in Virginia Beach, Va.
  • Nicole Hoskins '06 is a recreations therapist at St. Mary's Home for Disabled Children in Norfolk, Va. She resides in Chesapeake, Va.
  • Lynnette Jarvis '06 is a residential counselor at Pines Residential Treatment Center in Portsmouth, Va. She resides in Newport News, Va.
  • Alyssa Kozak '06 is a junior accounting representative with PHH Mortgage. She resides in Mount Laurel, N.J.
  • Sarah McDermott '06 is a math lab administrator at Reservoir Middle School in Newport News, Va. She resides in Hampton, Va.
  • Lavanya Outland '06 is an associate counselor at Rivermont Schoolof Central Health in Lynchburg, Va.
  • Megan Parris '06 is a marketing administrative assistant with The Meridian Group in Virginia Beach, Va. She resides in Virginia Beach.
  • Richard Pulley IV '06 is an assistant shift supervisor at Starbucks. He resides in Norfolk, Va.
  • Thomas Schoberl '06 is a procurement analyst with CMA CGM America Inc. in Norfolk, Va. He resides in Newport News, Va.
  • Ryan Simeral '06 is an assistant broker with MPB Inc. in Annapolis, Md. He resides in Annapolis.
  • Jessica Tibbetts '06 is a specialist with the American Diabetes Association. She resides in Manassas, Va.
  • Sada't Trusty '06 is a senior shareholder account representative with American Funds in Norfolk, Va.
  • Rebecca (Kimmich) Gasche '07 is a teller for the Bank of Hampton Roads. She resides in Virginia Beach, Va.

In Memoriam

  • Cynthia Lynn Brown Galderisi '00 passed away on Feb. 24, 2006 at Sentara Leigh Hospital. She had worked for the Virginia Beach Police Department as a public safety analyst. Cynthia was a LAMP major at Virginia Wesleyan.
