Marriages and Births

  • Sid Dobrin '89, his wife Teresa and son Asher welcomed little brother Shaia Nicholas Harris Dobrin on June 16, 2006. Sid's thirteenth book, Technical Communication in the Twenty-First Century, has just been published by Prentice Hall.
  • Larissa (Cash) McClaren '94 and her husband, James, welcomed their first child, 7-pound 9-ounce Matthew Cole McClaren, on Sept. 6, 2006.
  • AnnaLisa (Ehrlick) '95 and Timothy Michalski '95 welcomed 8-Adam Michalskipound 8-ounce Adam William Michalski (pictured) on Jan. 11. The Michalski family resides in Portsmouth, Va.
  • Jennifer Bender '98 (pictured) married William Knop on Sept. 3, Jennifer Bender and William Knop2006 at the Trade Center at Maryland's Inner Harbor. The Knops live in Chicago, Ill., where Jen works as an Events Associate for SPSS Inc.
  • Michael Heyer '02 and his wife, Sarah, welcomed 8-pound 7-ounce Monroe Elizabeth on Dec. 8. The Heyer family resides in Midlothian, Va.
  • Anne Marie Nash '04 married Richard Burroughs Jr. on Feb. 4, 2006 at the United States Naval Academy Chapel in Annapolis, Md.

Personal Updates

  • Suzanne Marquess '75 was profiled in the November/December 2006 International Wood Collectors Society publication, World of Wood. The article, "Destined for Marquetry," references her experiences in the art department at Virginia Wesleyan. Marquess resides in Ipswich, England.
  • David Miner '76 is the pastor at Providence United Methodist Church in Marion, N.C.
  • Kim Richardson '80 is a Librarian at Cypress Creek Elementary School in Suffolk, Va., and has been elected Teacher of The Year. She and her husband, Philip Richardson '78, reside in Carrollton, Va.
  • Susan (Fortenberry) Williams '80 is the VP of Human Resources at Continental Broadband, Inc. in Norfolk, Va.
  • Melissa Burroughs '86 was promoted to Executive Vice President/Chief Lending Officer OPNB and Senior Vice President/OPFC at The Old Point National Bank.
  • Stephen Gibbs '89 is the executive chef for Hands On Gourmet, a culinary event company in the San Francisco Bay Area. They offer interactive cooking classes for corporate team building and for private celebrations. Stephen previously worked for acclaimed restaurants including Wolfgang Puck's Postrio and as an actor in "Days of our Lives" and other 1990s sitcoms and television commercials.
  • Patty Ritzi '92 and her company, Premier Events, Inc., were featured in the January 29 episode of "My Super Sweet 16" on MTV. Premier Events assisted with the planning of a $300,000 party at the Granby Theater in Norfolk for Virginia Beach native Amberly Carter.
  • Jay Smith '03 is a Financial Analyst with Canon USA in Lake Success, N.Y., and is engaged to be married to Rebecca Muhr on June 8, 2007.
  • David Nolff '06 graduated from the Virginia Beach Police Academy and is currently assigned to the 3rd Precinct. David currently resides in South Mills, N.C.

In Memoriam

  • Victoria Tulk Heasley '80 passed away on Sept. 15, 2006. She was a psychology major at Virginia Wesleyan.
  • Cmdr. Byron Frazier "By" Hodge '87 passed away on Jan. 17, 2007. U.S. Navy retired with 28 years of service, his Navy career was highlighted by three tours of duty in the Pacific with many combat missions over Vietnam earning him the Distinguished Flying Cross, among other commendations.
  • Harvey Brooks Hill '88, passed away Feb. 4, 2007, after a long illness. A LAMP major at Virginia Wesleyan, he had been employed by several companies as a sales representative. He was an enthusiastic tennis player, freshwater fisherman and amateur magician.
