Barbara Wool '83, member of the Virginia Wesleyan Alumni Association Board of Directors and supporter of Virginia Wesleyan's Key to the Future Campaign, will donate 25% of her commission when a Virginia Wesleyan client buys or sells a home from her.
Wool, a realtor with 20 years of experience who
specializes in residential properties with Long and Foster, "knows the Hampton Roads area like the back of her hand." The daughter of a developer/builder, she spent many summer afternoons driving around northern Virginia with her father in search of good properties to develop. "Being a realtor has been a natural fit for me," she said.
When her husband passed away in 1977, Wool decided she was ready to go back to school, despite not having taken a class in 15 years. With a two-year degree from Stratford College in Danville, Va., Wool enrolled at Virginia Wesleyan and earned a bachelor's degree through the Liberal Arts Management Program (LAMP) in 1983.
She remembers how, despite her doubts, Dr. Neil Ramsey encouraged her to take an honors English course, the fact that math professor Rob Turner's "office door was always open, and I took advantage of all the help," and how, when she had to put her degree on hold, English teacher Eve Blachman would take her son to breakfast at the Duck-In.
"I want to be able to give back to Virginia Wesleyan for all the gifts I've received from the College," Wool said.
Wool is a licensed real estate agent in the Commonwealth of Virginia. She covers the Southside of the Hampton Roads area and can make referrals to cover North Carolina. In addition to donating 25% of her commission, Wool will cover the administrative fee ($195) at closing.
