  • 2006 Commencement - 270 seniors received their diplomas at Mrs. Jane P. BattenVirginia Wesleyan's 37th Commencement on Saturday, May 13. Former Virginia Governor Gerald L. Baliles addressed the Class of 2006, and both he and Mrs. Jane P. Batten (pictured) were awarded honorary degrees.
  • Stephen Mansfield to serve as Director of Archives at VWC. Mansfield will begin the process of archiving the College's history when he begins his new role as Director of Archives on July 1.
  • Bill Joseph to retire after 40 years at Virginia Wesleyan. Vice President for Business Affairs Bill Joseph will retire from his position effective July 1.
  • Are your kids looking to improve their sports skills? Send them to Virginia Wesleyan for some fun and fundamentals at one of the 2006 Summer Sports Camps! Open to a variety of ages and skill levels, Marlin camps feature some of the best college coaches in the country, in addition to a host of talented college athletes and some of the finest athletic facilities in Division III.
  • Recently two executives from Cox Communications visited Billy Cox Communications grant - photo by Leslie Krohn, Expressive Art PhotographyGreer on campus. Frank Bowers, Vice President and Region Manager, Hampton Roads, and Thom Prevette, Vice President, Government and Public Affairs, delivered a $50,000 grant to support the modernization of the Hofheimer Library. Renovating the library and adding 50,000 books to the collection are vitally important to the vision to become Phi Beta Kappa by the end of this decade.
  • There are two items from the 6th Annual Alumni Auction & Party still up for bid! The Alumni Office will accept blind, confidential bids on these items from now through June 23 at 4:30 p.m.
  • Are you interested in being a volunteer for the Alumni Association? Volunteering is as easy as 1-2-3! Simply print this document, complete it and fax or mail it back to the Alumni Office! Volunteers are needed to help out at events such as Homecoming, Wesleyan Wednesday, the Auction and more!
  • Will you make the list? Time is running out! Make your gift to the Annual Fund for Academic Excellence by June 30 to be listed on the 2005-2006 honor roll of donors. Gifts to the Annual Fund support student scholarships, technology upgrades and additions, and provide resources for students and faculty to conduct research projects and present them in a professional environment, like at the first VWC Academic Fair held in the spring of 2006. Alumni Announcements

  • Melissa Burroughs ’86 has been promoted to the Regional Lending Executive for the Chesapeake Region with Old Point National Bank. Melissa holds an MBA from Old Dominion University.
  • Lee-Ann Howard O’Dell ’90 and her husband, Jeff, welcomed their second child, son Mason Grant on December 13, 2005. Mason joins older sister Emilee. Lee-Ann serves as Coordinator of K-12 programs for the University of Virginia Hampton Roads Center.
