  • The Annual Fund for Academic Excellence student-based Phonathon resumed calling on January 30.  There are six student callers returning from last semester.  Pictured (L-R): Brenton Smith, Sarah Saccone, Cal Bledsoe, Monica Phonathon Student CallersNewton, Tia Butts and Leon Oliver.  They are glad to be back to school and back on the phones so please welcome their call.   • Men's Indoor Track - freshman Brandon Spalding placed 18th in a field of 24 in the mile race at the CNU Invitational, posting a VWC record time of 4:53.98; sophomore Damien Woodley set a new VWC record in the 200-meter dash at 23.95; freshman Josh Smith set the new mark in the 60 meter dash at 7.55.
  • Women's Indoor Track - freshman Ashley Roane clocked a time of 5:50.10 in the mile and 20:48.18 in the 5000-meter, finishing 11th in the mile and she sixth in the 5000-meter; sophomore Rachel Refo set a VWC record in the 400 with a time of 1:10.89

Alumni Announcements

  • Brigitte Bradley-Porter '94 and her husband, Brian, welcomed their second daughter, Caitlin Elizabeth, on August 14, 2005. Caitlin joins big sister Caroline Grace, 2. The Porters reside in Virginia Beach, where Brigitte and Brian both work for Virginia Beach Public Schools.
  • Bob Pipkin '79 retired from the United States Navy on January 31, 2006 and is now the pastor of the First Baptist Church in Virginia Beach, Va.
