The Virginia Derryberry exhibit currently on display in the Neil Britton Art Gallery is featured in the latest issue, "Fall Arts & Fashion," of Veer Magazine. The exhibit was chosen as the number one pick in the publication's "Visual Art Top 5."
Wesleyan Soccer Coach Jeff Bowers, who recently took on the role of women's head coach in addition to his job as the men'a coach, was featured in the September 14 issue of the Virginian-Pilot.

Fall 2013 applied and admitted students with at least a 3.0 GPA and 1100 SAT (CR and Math)/24 ACT (composite) score are also invited to attend Honors and Scholarship Days on October 19, November 9, February 8 and March 8.

Educate Yourself About Adult Studies
Adult Studies Information Session: Thursday, October 4 at 5:30 p.m. in Clarke Hall. The session will cover degrees offered, course formats and available military, financial aid, tuition deferral and Corporate Rate Program benefits in a question-and-answer format.
Adult Studies Program Teacher Certification Information Session: Wednesday, November 14 at 5:30 p.m. in Clarke Hall. Have your questions answered about our teacher certification programs. Now is the time to schedule an appointment with an adviser to talk about your future as an educator!

A Great Call for VWC Students
VWC PhonathonThe fall semester has started and the campus is buzzing with excitement. The Marlin Student Phonathon just began its ninth year of reaching out to alumni, parents and friends of the College. Twelve student ambassadors are eager to connect with you over the phone and seek your support for the Annual Fund for Academic Excellence. The Annual Fund provides our students with scholarships, undergraduate research opportunities, faculty recruitment and retention, internships and opportunities to study abroad. Please welcome their phone calls and feel free to ask them about their experiences at VWC.

Center for the Study of Religious Freedom
The 2012-2013 Nexus Interfaith Dialogue Series will explore the relationship between religion and art by looking at five modes of artistic expression from the perspective of two different religious traditions. The series begins on Monday, October 15, at 7:30 p.m., with poetry. Panelists Rabbi Michael Panitz and Imam Vernon Fareed will discuss the influence of early Arabic poetic traditions on Islamic scripture and Hebrew poetry. See the Center's website for more details.

"The Role of Religion in the 2012 Presidential Campaign" is the focus of a Center program to be held on Thursday, October 25, at 12 p.m., in the Pearce Hospitality Suite. The program will be lead by Dr. Eric Mazur, Gloria and David Furman Professor of Judaic Studies at Virginia Wesleyan, and will feature VWC students in Professor Mazur's course on Religion and American Politics.

Paul Kumpf '90 and Tina Tyson '93 Paul and Tina found each other but also a shared interest in international affairs while at Wesleyan that would help shape both of their careers and personal lives.

Sam Snow '77 As Coaching Director at U.S. Youth Soccer, Sam has translated a love of athletics, which goes back to his time on VWC's first conference-winning team, into a career in education.

Christine Cipriani Jones '91 A TV development producer at m2 Pictures in Hampton, Virginia, Christine's typical work day might include anything from writing pitches for reality TV shows to scheduling TV shoots on the other side of the country.

Save the Date for the VWC Alumni Destination Race
Calling all runners! Save the date for the Runners World Half Marathon and Festival Weekend from October 19-21 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. VWC Track and Cross Country coaches Mat and Krista Littleton will be leading a group of VWC alumni in our second annual Alumni Destination Race. Alumni from all over the country will gather together to run the 5K, 10K or Half Marathon. There will be a reunion reception on the night of Saturday, October 20. Stay tuned for more details!

Class Notes

Laura Cox (2006) was recently promoted to Supervisor Freight Accounting at Norfolk Southern located in Atlanta, GA.

Jonathan Stemmle (1993) was recently hired as an Assistant Professor in strategic communication at University of Missouri School of Journalism located in Columbia, MO. In addition, earlier this year Stemmle was promoted to the Director of the Health Communication Research Center at the University of Missouri. He will serve in both roles when his faculty position begins in August.

Anthony Busic (1985) died in Salem, Virginia on July 23, 2012 from cancer. He is survived by his wife, Vickie, siblings, and children. Anthony served as a United Methodist minister in the Virginia Conference.

John Porter (1978) died in Charlottesville, Virginia on June 29, 2012. John is survived by his wife, Susan, and sons Chris and Ashton. He will be remembered for his quick-witted, dry sense of humor and his dedication to family and business.

Michelle (Superczynski) Hurst (2001) recently accepted a position at WM Jordan located in Newport News, VA as Human Resources Manager.
