Assistant Professor of English Kellie Holzer was featured in the Home section of the Virginian-Pilot on July 22. Holzer was the featured lecturer at a meeting of the Eloise Hunter Chapter of the Victorian Society in America. She gave a talk titled: “In Want of a Wife: Victorian Matrimonial Advertisements.” Gloria And David Furman Professor of Judaic Studies Eric Mazur was interviewed on June 17 by Jimmy Cefalo (former member of the Miami Dolphins, now a news radio anchor) on "South Florida's First News" program on WiOD610 in Miami on the topic of religion and the latest Superman film, "Man of Steel." An Inside Hampton Roads interview with VWC senior communication student Jessica Hauser aired on five local radio stations July 28. An advocate for children and families affected by autism, Hauser is working to bring a screening of the award-winning documentary The United States of Autism to Virginia Beach.

Meet the Newest Members of
the Alumni Board of Directors
The Alumni Board of Directors represents all VWC alumni by serving as advocates to the College. Members volunteer their time each year, actively participating in the planning of networking events, regional socials, and Homecoming and Parents Weekend. The Board’s goal is to provide leadership as alumni and to connect, participate, champion and support Virginia Wesleyan College. Meet the board's newest members:

Aaron Bull (1995) is the Founder/CEO of Bull & Company MediaWorks. While at VWC, he majored in communications and was involved with Young Republicans. He is now involved with the Lead Hampton Roads Alumni Council and Chesapeake Chamber of Commerce as an executive board member. His wife, Kay Tipton Bull, is also a member of the Class of 1995 and his daughter, AnnaLee, is a future Marlin.

Cathy Holava (1993) has been a programmer and analyst for Bank of America for 14 years. She is also an active volunteer with the Foodbank. As a VWC student, she was a LAMP major (now business). She and her husband Scott, also a 1993 graduate, have three very active boys.

Ryan Metz (2010) is currently pursuing two master's degrees, one in information technology systems and another in business. At VWC, he majored in criminal justice and was a member of Phi Kappa Tau.

Molly Phillips (2002) is a teacher and coach in Dover, Delaware. She has been named the Diamond State Conference Coach of the Year and the Delaware Lacrosse Person of the Year. At VWC, she majored in history and political science.

Amber Randolph (2005) was a history major at VWC. After graduation she became a teaching fellow at the American Farm School in Greece. She later earned a law degree from UVA and is currently an attorney at Wilcox & Savage, P.C.

Jeffrey Bradford (2005) and Rebecca (Leedom) Bradford (2010) are proud to announce the birth of a baby boy, Landon Jeffery. He was born on July 30, 2013 and weighed 7 lb., 5 oz.

John Alutto (2007) and Kristen (Byrnes) Alutto (2007)
are proud to announce the birth of a baby boy, Wesley Lawrence, born on July 21, 2013 and weighing 6 lbs., 9 oz.

Jonathan Trullender (1998) and wife and Mallory welcomed a daughter, Isabella Cora, on September 8, 2012.

Brad Schloss (2004) has been promoted to assistant vice president at TowneBank Mortgage. He has been in the mortgage industry for almost 10 years and was named a Top 1% Mortgage Originator in America for 2012 by Mortgage Executives Magazine.

Richard Kurzenknabe (1979) accepted a position in March 2013 as member service representative at Navy Federal Credit Union in Winchester, VA: "After 33 1/2 years in county, state, and town governmental positions, I finally decided that a change was in order. What a WONDERFUL change it has been! I couldn't be happier, with the exception of expecting my second grandchild on Christmas Eve 2013!"

Howard Krum (1985), an aquatic animal veterinarian and science writer, recently released his first novel. “An Animal Life: The Beginning” is a scientific medical mystery and a quest for True Love that unfolds as newbie first-year students struggle to survive the academic gauntlet of veterinary school. All proceeds from sales through the author’s website benefit animal charities (www.AnAnimalLife.com).

Adult Studies Degree Completion Information Session: Thursday, September 5 at 5:30 p.m. in Clarke Hall
The session will cover degrees offered; academic and personal support; course delivery formats; military student options; financial aid; employer tuition deferral; and the Adult Studies Corporate Rate Program.
