James "Jay" Secor III, 1974James Secor III '74
"I am very proud of my Virginia Wesleyan degree," said James "Jay" Secor III '74. Jay recently recounted his journey from college student to founding Headmaster for the Episcopal School of Knoxville, Tennessee. Jay grew up in Toledo, Ohio. Shortly after enrolling at Virginia Wesleyan College, he developed a friendship with then President Lambuth Clarke. Clarke mentored Jay throughout his time at VWC as he became increasingly interested in educational leadership. Jay went on to receive his Masters of Science in Education from James Madison University.
Jay continued in the field of education where he has developed, built and founded several Episcopal schools throughout the United States from New Orleans, Louisiana to his school in Knoxville, Tennessee. Jay married his Wesleyan sweetheart, Christine "Trina" Secor (Robinson) '74. They have three children, Virginia, Ketchum and Caroline. Jay shared that he and Trina were the first Virginia Wesleyan couple married. Trina babysat for Vonique, the young daughter of founding French teacher Patricia Sullivan while Pat completed her doctorate degree. Pat's new doctorate enabled Trina to graduate from Virginia Wesleyan with a major in French.
