Cooking for Kids
6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
Help impact hunger with the food preparation program "Cooking for Kids" on Wednesday, December 3 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Boyd Dining Center's kitchen. Child nutrition is a real issue in our communities and ending childhood hunger is a major priority of our Foodbank. Help assemble a meal that will feed children as part of the Kids Café network after-school program. Sign up in the Community Service office. Habitat for Humanity Work Day
8 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Put in a full day’s work on a construction site with the VWC Chapter of Habitat for Humanity on Saturday, December 6 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. You’ll learn something AND have the satisfaction of knowing that you helped put a deserving family in a decent, affordable house. ACCESS AIDS Care Bingo
5 p.m. - 8 p.m.
Give back with bingo alongside ACCESS AIDS Care at the Suburban Bingo Hall in Norfolk on Saturday, December 6 from 5-8 p.m. Bingo duties would include selling “instants” (a small, tear-off lotto ticket) to Bingo players, handing out Bingo programs, verifying Bingo numbers for winners, and providing general support to the staff at the Bingo hall. Ninth Annual On-Campus Winter Homeless Shelter
Be part of something bigger than yourself by volunteering for the Ninth Annual On-Campus Winter Homeless Shelter, January 11-18. In partnership with Portsmouth Volunteers for the Homeless, VWC student, faculty and staff volunteers will band together to provide homeless men and women with hot meals, fun activities and a secure, warm place to sleep. Volunteers help prepare and serve evening meals, socialize, provide overnight security, make new friends, and learn first hand about the root causes of homelessness. Volunteer sign ups are now open in the Office of Community Service. Volunteer orientations will be held Nov. 20 at 11 a.m. OR Nov. 24 at 4:30 p.m. (Location TBD). American Red Cross Blood Drive

Kappa Alpha Order will host an American Red Cross Blood Drive on Wednesday, February 25 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the CMAC inside the Jane P. Batten Student Center. Sign up to donate blood online at www.redcrossblood.org; scheduled blood donors will complete the donation process in about an hour. Walk-ins are welcome as space is available. Volunteers are needed at registration and at the canteen on the day of the drive. Volunteers may sign up in the Office of Community Service for one-hour shifts during the drive.
