My Role at Virginia Wesleyan College
I joined Virginia Wesleyan College in November 2009 as Director of College Communications. My role involved leading College Communications' efforts and overseeing all internal and external college communications including print projects, press releases, website, social media, advertising, and promotions. In October 2012, I moved to the Office of the President as Director of Strategic Planning and Assistant to the President. In this role, I will oversee the Office of College Communications and lead College-wide efforts in strategic planning and work on special projects for the President. In addition, I serve on the Virginia Wesleyan Administrative Council and as the central contact for the College when issues requiring a public announcement arise.
My Background and Education
I earned Bachelor and Master's degrees from California University of Pennsylvania in California, PA, which is where I grew up. After graduation, I began my professional career as a Speech/Language Pathologist for the Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS). In 1996, I moved to the VBCPS Central Office as the division-wide Partnership Coordinator, and in 2000, I became Director of Community Relations. In 2006, I changed careers and started working for Landmark Communications as Organizational Development Manager. My tenure with Landmark ended when the company announced plans to sell its business units in 2009. I am a certified Myers Briggs facilitator and enjoy understanding "type" and the impact it has on work behavior.
Ideas, I'm full of ideas and love opportunities to think strategically about ways of improving things (processes, people, places, plans, etc.) I always want to get the maximum out of every opportunity; to take something and kick it up a notch and make it great. I detest just "good enough". People. . . I love getting to know a wide variety of people and trying to understand just what makes them tick. I also like to work collaboratively with others; I find that stimulating the collective wisdom of a talented group usually leads to stellar outcomes and that really thrills me!
Some of My Favorites. . .
My family, my dog, Delilah, the Pittsburgh Steelers, leadership books, Body Pump, romantic comedies, "type" watching, and shopping!
