Objectives
To provide resources that will enrich and support the liberal arts
curriculum, taking into consideration the varied interests and abilities of
faculty and students as well as the overall mission and objectives of the College.
To provide resources that will stimulate growth in factual knowledge;
literary appreciation; aesthetic values; ethical standards, and promote life-long
learning.
To provide resources on opposing sides of controversial issues that
will stimulate independent thinking.
To provide resources representative of the many religious, ethnic, and
cultural groups and their contributions to our heritage.
Criteria
Each resource selected for the library collection is judged with regard to:
- Relevance to educational goals and curriculum
- Permanent or timely value
- Accurate and reliable information
- Authoritativeness/reputation of publisher
- Clear presentation and readability
- Social significance
- Cost and durability
- Accessibility
At the present time, books generally not considered for purchase include standard textbooks, technical manuals, and collectible or rare books. See gift policy.
