ACADEMIC STUDIES ABROAD (ASA) SCHOLARSHIPS
Each year, Academic Studies Abroad (ASA) awards over twenty scholarships for students to use towards semester, summer or year-long ASA study abroad programs. Individual scholarship awards range from $250 to $2,000. Applicants must be able to demonstrate financial need by submitting a copy of their financial aid award letter(s). A 1,000-word essay must be submitted with the ASA Scholarship application.

AMERICAN INSTITUTE FOR FOREIGN STUDY (AIFS) SCHOLARSHIPS
The American Institute for Foreign Study (AIFS) annually awards more than $250,000 in scholarships to students who submit application materials demonstrating high academic achievement. Scholarships are available for both summer and semester AIFS programs. Generally, applicants must have a 3.0 GPA or higher.

BENJAMIN A. GILMAN INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
The Gilman Scholarship Program, sponsored by the US State Department - Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and administered by the Institute of International Education (IIE), lowers barriers to study abroad by providing awards of up to $5,000 to undergraduates demonstrating financial need; students must be Pell Grant eligible at the time of application. Gilman Scholars are now eligible to receive an additional $3,000 Critical Need Language Supplement from the Gilman Program for a total possible award of up to $8,000.

BOREN SCHOLARSHIPS
National Security Education Program (NSEP)
Boren Scholarships provide American undergraduate students with the resources and encouragement they need to acquire skills and experiences in areas of the world critical to the future security of our nation, in exchange for their commitment to seek work in the federal government. Maximum scholarship awards are $10,000 for a semester and $20,000 for a full academic year.

BRIDGING SCHOLARSHIPS
The Association of Teachers of Japanese Bridging Project offers scholarships to American undergraduate students participating in study-abroad programs in Japan. Bridging Scholarship recipients receive a stipend of $2,500 (for students on semester-long programs) or $4,000 (for students on academic year programs). Undergraduate students majoring in any field of study are eligible to apply, and Japanese language study is not a prerequisite.

CAPA INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION
CAPA is pleased to announce that we are increasing the affiliate grants for all CAPA study abroad programs. Effective beginning the Summer term of 2011, the grant will now be $300 for all summer programs and $600 for all semester programs.
Furthermore, we are additionally excited to announce that CAPA will be awarding TEN (10), $5,000 scholarships during the 2011-2012 academic year for affiliate students only. These scholarships will be need-based with no minimum GPA requirement. Students with less financial need will still be eligible for the regular CAPA merit-based scholarships. Summer applicants can still apply for the regular need and merit-based scholarships.

CIS SCHOLARSHIPS AND GRANTS
CRITICAL LANGUAGE SCHOLARSHIPS
Sponsored by the US Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and administered by the Council of American Overseas Research Centers (CAORC), the Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program offers intensive summer language institutes overseas in critical need foreign languages. Critical need languages include: Arabic, Azerbaijani, Bangla/Bengali, Chinese, Hindi, Korean, Persian, Punjabi, Russian, Turkish and Urdu. The scholarship covers all program costs including air travel, room, board, visa fees and more.

CULTURAL EXPERIENCES ABROAD (CEA) SCHOLARSHIPS
CEA gives a first-place award of $3,000 and a second-place award of $2,000 for the following scholarships: Chris Towns France Scholarship, Foreign Language Scholarship, Global Education Scholarship, Academic Excellence Scholarship and CEA Financial Need Grant. Two CEA summer scholarships are also awarded annually -- one for $1,500 and one for $750. Applicants must submit a letter of recommendation and an original essay. Scholarships must be used towards CEA study abroad programs.

DEUTSCHER AKADEMISCHER AUSTAUSCH DIENST (DAAD)
German Academic Exchange Service, Grants and Scholarships
DAAD offers a wide range of opportunities to students, scholars, and higher education institutions of the United States and Canada, from undergraduate students to faculty, for study and research in Germany. About 60 undergraduate grants and scholarships are awarded annually to help offset the cost of study abroad, internships or senior thesis research in Germany. Undergraduate scholarships are open to students in all fields; previous German language experience not required, but advantageous.

ENGLISH-SPEAKING UNION SCHOLARSHIPS
British Universities Summer Studies
This program, administered by the English-Speaking Union of the United States in conjunction with the participating British institutions, provides an exceptional opportunity for teachers and rising college seniors to attend summer study programs in either of three locations: the Globe Theater in London, Oxford University and the University of Edinburgh. The Richmond Branch of the ESU works to provide funds sufficient to cover the costs of tuition and transportation.

Freeman-ASIA
Freeman Awards for Study in Asia (Freeman-ASIA) provides scholarships for U.S. undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need to study abroad in East or Southeast Asia.

FULBRIGHT INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, the Fulbright is the largest U.S. international exchange program. In 2007, approximately 6,000 grants (totalling over $262 million) were awarded to U.S. students, teachers, professionals, and scholars to study, teach, lecture, and conduct research in more than 155 countries, and to their foreign counterparts to engage in similar activities in the United States.

FUND FOR EDUCATION ABROAD
The Fund for Education Abroad (FEA). FEA is committed to increasing opportunities for dedicated American students to participate in high-quality, rigorous education abroad programs by reducing financial restrictions through the provision of grants and scholarships.
Unlike many other scholarship programs, FEA asks our scholars to apply one year in advance of their academic abroad year. Therefore the current application is for students looking to study abroad during the 2012-2013 academic year or during summer 2013.
- Applications are currently NOT being accepted. The next application cycle will open in October 2012 and will be for students planning to study abroad in the 2013-2014 academic year (i.e. Summer 2013, Fall 2013, Spring 2014).

GLOBAL STUDENT EXPERIENCE (GSE) SCHOLARSHIPS
GSE offers five types of Study Abroad Scholarships: Language Development ($500), Business Studies ($1,000), Liberal and Studio Arts ($1,000), General Semester (1,000) and Summer ($250). Applicants must submit an essay of at least 400 words and meet the GPA and other requirements indicated on the application. GSE scholarships are to be used towards certain GSE programs.

GLOBALINKS LEARNING ABROAD SCHOLARSHIPS
GlobaLinks Learning Abroad strives to offer the most reasonable study abroad fees. To further enhance the affordability of the programs, GlobaLinks encourages students to apply for scholarships through all available scholarship sources. GlobaLinks Learning Abroad provides more than $600,000 in scholarships every year. To be eligible for consideration for a GlobaLinks Learning Abroad scholarship, you will be required to fill out a full scholarship application (only available upon acceptance to aprogram) by the required deadline. Scholarship decisions are made by a committee, and not all students receive an award.

INTERNATIONAL STUDIES ABROAD (ISA) SCHOLARSHIPS
ISA wards $60,000 in scholarships each year to students who are participating in ISA's study abroad programs.
Dr. Carlos E. Castañeda Memorial Working Scholarship - As a working scholarship, winners must be prepared to work up to 10 hours per week in the host country for the full program term. This work may include tasks such as blogging, taking photos, orientation materials updating, data entry, clerical, or other similar responsibilities. The total awards are now $45,000 and they are now offered for semester, trimester and year program only.The distribution of the awards is 10 fall awards for $2,000 each, 10 winter/spring awards for $2,000 each, and 2 year awards for $2,500 each. The Dr. Carlos E. Castañeda Memorial Working Scholarship is for affiliates only.
Michaela Farnum Memorial Scholarship - The Michaela Farnum Memorial Scholarships are now offered for summer programs only. The distribution of the scholarship is 5 summer awards for $1,000 each, and is available for affiliates and non-affiliates.
Diversity Scholarship - The GPA requirement for the Diversity Scholarship has been increased to 3.0. The distribution of the scholarship is 2 fall awards for $2,000, 2 winter/spring awards for $2,000, and 2 summer awards for $1,000. The Diversity Scholarship is available for affiliates and non-affiliates.

LAURA W. BUSH TRAVELING FELLOWSHIP
U.S. National Commission for UNESCO
The fellowship will help fund a proposal designed by the applicant to conduct brief work in a foreign country related to the mandate of UNESCO - using education, natural sciences, social and human sciences, culture, and/or communication and information to build strong ties among nations. The fellowship is intended for American college students who express an interest in international collaboration but as of yet had not been afforded many opportunities to travel abroad. The length of time for the travel is expected to be between 4 and 6 weeks.

LIVFund
The LIVFund [Learn, Intern, Volunteer] scholarship fund was established by founder David Garrett to further the organization's mission of promoting cultural exchange between Latin America and the rest of the world.
LIVFund scholarships, worth $500 USD each, will be awarded twice per month to selected individuals ages 18 and up planning to travel to the following countries to study, intern or volunteer for at least one [1] week.Argentina, Belize, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Uruguay, Venezuela.

NATIONAL ITALIAN AMERICAN FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS
The National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) awards scholarships and grants to outstanding students in the summer for use during the following academic year. The awards will be made on the basis of academic merit and divided between two groups of students: Category I: Italian American students who demonstrate outstanding potential and high academic achievements. Area of study: open. Category II: Students from any ethnic background majoring or minoring in Italian language, Italian studies, Italian American studies or a related field, who demonstrate outstanding potential and high academic achievements. Scholarship awards range from $2,000-$12,000.

NATIONAL OUTDOOR LEADERSHIP SCHOOL (NOLS) SCHOLARSHIPS
Each year, the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) offers over $1,000,000 dollars in scholarship assistance. Scholarship aid is available to applicants who show great potential to excel as NOLS students and who would be unable to attend without financial aid. The typical award ranges between $500 and $2,000; however, full tuition scholarships are awarded occasionally for international and domestic NOLS programs. Students can earn up to 16 credits on summer or semester NOLS programs (college credit is offered through the University of Utah).

ROTARY FOUNDATION AMBASSADORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS
Academic-Year Ambassadorial Scholarships provide a flat grant of US$25,000 for one academic year of study in another country. These awards are intended to help defray costs associated with round-trip transportation, tuition and other fees, room and board, and some educational supplies. Cultural Ambassadorial Scholarships help finance either 3 or 6 months of intensive language study and cultural immersion in another country. They provide a flat grant of $12,000 for 3 months and $17,000 for 6 months. Funds are intended to offset costs associated with round-trip transportation, language training, and homestay living arrangements. Some Rotary districts may offer only one type of scholarship, or none at all. Applicants must check with their local club about availability. Student should search for scholarship availability at the Rotary Club in their hometown's district as well as in District 7600, which covers Virginia Wesleyan College.
