Kathleen Casey received her doctorate in History in 2010 from the University of Rochester and is the recipient of the Susan B. Anthony Award for Most Distinguished Dissertation in Women’s Studies.  She was a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the University of Rochester from 2010-2011, before serving as the Dean’s Visiting Assistant Professor of History at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Honors College from 2011-2012. Dr. Casey joined the faculty of the History Department and the Women’s and Gender Studies Program at Virginia Wesleyan College in 2012.

Her area of expertise is early twentieth-century American cultural and social history.  Her research interests include modern American popular culture and performance, gender and sexuality, and African-American history and she specializes in the history of American vaudeville.  Professor Casey teaches a variety of courses at Virginia Wesleyan College, including Reinterpreting the Roaring Twenties, African American History Since the Civil War, Race in the American City, Big Brother in the Bedroom, U.S. Women’s History, and Introduction to Women’s Studies.
