Travis DeGraphenried

Katie Costello '13, biology major from Burlington, New Jersey, carried her studies with her to Galveston, Texas, to engage in hands-on undergraduate research.

Under the mentorship of Dr. Soraya Bartol, Assistant Professor of Marine Biology, Katie had the opportunity to engage in meaningful hands-on research, allowing for the connection of in-class education to an exploratory learning experience.

Ashley Ladyman ’09 spent a summer internship with Norfolk Southern Corporation, a company that controls a major freight railroad.  “I learned a lot about the rail industry as a whole.  I got more out of my internship than I ever thought I would.”

Virginia Wesleyan students gain invaluable inquiry-based experience through the pursuit of scholarly research.  Dan Proud '07 became the first Wesleyan student to win a research award at the Virginia Academy of Sciences Undergraduate Research Competition for his research about harvestmen, also known as the daddy long legs.
