Admitted Student Days throughout March and April
The Admissions
Office will host a series of Admitted Student Days for all students who have been admitted to the College for the fall 2008. Students are encouraged to participate in one of these days which includes a campus tour, an individual meeting with a Financial Aid representative, a student panel and a complementary lunch in the Dining Hall. 2008 Winter Homeless Shelter
Each night the week-long winter homeless shelter was filled with conversation, laughter and tears. The shelter hit a record high mid-week, accommodating 84 guests. A special thanks to several alumni and alumni parents who volunteered including:

Career Services: Preparing students for careers
Career Services is hosting a Psychology Careers Panel Discussion at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 10 in Clarke Hall, Room 118. A panel of professionals will share the value of their undergraduate psychology degrees in their current careers. An Etiquette Dinner will be held on Tuesday, April 22 from 5 - 6:30 p.m. in the Princess Anne Room, Boyd Dining Center. Cost is $10 per person and reservations are required. Dr. Lovett H. Weems, Jr., distinguished professor of church leadership and director of the G. Going to College with the Adult Studies Program
The Adult Studies Program at Virginia Wesleyan College is holding an information session for adults interested in going to college at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 6 in Clarke Hall. This information session will cover topics such as degree programs offered, tips for success, learning support available for non-traditional students, credit transfers, guaranteed admission for Virginia community college students, employer tuition deferral programs, financial aid options and how to enroll. Matthew J. Franck '80
Matthew J. Franck '80 is a professor and chairman of the political science department at Radford University in Radford, Va., where he has taught constitutional law, American politics and political philosophy since 1989.
He received his M.A. and Ph.D. in political science from Northern Illinois University. In 1998, he served as the J. William Fulbright Professor of American Studies at the Yonsei University Graduate School of International Studies in Seoul, Korea. In 2001, he received the Radford University Foundation Award for Creative Scholarship. An avid writer of books, essays and reviews, Franck also regularly contributes to "Bench Memos" on National Review Online. He is married to Professor Gwen O. Brown of the Radford University department of communication.

Retirement Dinner: Professor Robert "Beau" Cass
On Saturday, Feb. 23 the MBE Department
will host a social hour and dinner to honor Professor Robert "Beau" Cass and his
32 years of service to the College as he will retire in February for health-related reasons. Social hour with cash bar begins at 4 p.m. in the foyer of the Shafer Dining Room, followed by a dinner at 5 p.m. Cost is $25 per person and individuals may register online using MasterCard or Visa. New Alumni Director
Lisa Black, formerly the assistant director of Alumni Relations for Virginia Wesleyan College, was promoted to Director of Alumni Relations in January. A '99 graduate of Mary Baldwin College, Black worked in the Admissions Office at her Alma Mater before joining the admissions staff at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Va. Black began working for Virginia Wesleyan's Alumni Relations in the summer of 2006. Beth Clarke '98, formerly the director of Alumni Relations for Virginia Wesleyan College, was promoted to Director of Development in January. She previously worked for Virginia Wesleyan's Admissions Office from 1998-2003. In January 2006, she returned to the College as the assistant director of annual giving, and in the summer was appointed the director of Alumni Relations.

The Alumni Association is seeking nominations for the Alumni Awards Program. Alumni can self-nominate or may be nominated by someone else for two awards: the Distinguished Alumnus Award and the Alumni Service Award. David Miner (1976) writes, "I have been working with missions in the Democratic Republic of the Congo since 1989. I started by helping my father establish a trade school where the Congolese train themselves in job skills. I also continue to serve at Providence United Methodist Church in Marion, N.C., as an ordained elder of the WNCC."
Ann (Batten) Bruce (1987) recently accepted a position at Kaufman & Canoles located in Norfolk, Va., as Employee Benefit Paralegal. Ann recently was employed at SunTrust Bank as Vice President, Relationship Manager.
Michelle (Bozzelli) Stockard (1996) and Ken Stockard are proud to announce the birth of twins (2 boys). They were born on Sept. 5, 2007 in Fairfax, Va., and weighed 4 lbs 3 oz.
Christopher Douglass (2003) was recently promoted to Account Sales Manager at Xerox Upstate located in Rochester, N.Y.
