“Great is Thy Faithfulness”

“I was ready to be sought by those who did not ask; to be found by those who did not seek me, and said ‘here I am’ to a nation that did not call my name.  All day long I have held out my hands.”    (Isaiah 65:1-2a)

The Center’s annual fall hymn festival celebrates God’s constant presence. Dr. Craig Wansink,  Professor of Religious Studies offers the afternoon reflection, with special music by The Celebration Ringers of Great Bridge Baptist Church and the Wesleyan Worship Choir, with Jason Evans, organist and pianist.

All singers are invited to be part of the chorus (music is provided).  Rehearse the day of the hymn festival at 3:00pm.

To sing, call 757.455.3376 or email

Hymns have played a vital role in worship since the earliest Christians gathered to worship the risen Christ. Congregational singing exploded anew with the Protestant Reformation and The Center for Sacred Music's annual Hymn Festival continues to encourage the great tradition of the people's song.

Various churches in the Hampton Roads area play host to the festival each October, and you can be a part of this great afternoon of singing by being part of a massed choir that leads the congregation in singing, and presents several special selections.

There is no charge to participate, and whether you bring your entire choir or come alone, you'll be inspired by the message of the Word, both sung and spoken, delight in the instruction of the guest conductors, and enjoy the fellowship of Christians in song.

For further details or to register, call the Center at 757-455-3376, or email Music will be provided in advance of the festival day. All choir members take part in one rehearsal at 3:00pm on the day of the festival which follows at 4:00pm. Music should be learned in advance.
