Adomanis, Norris guide Marlins to win at Goucher

TOWSON, Md. -- Bethany Adomanis not only kept her current scoring streak in tact for the Virginia Wesleyan College women's lacrosse team on Wednesday, she matched a career-high scoring effort by firing in five goals that helped the Marlins to a 14-10 non-conference win at Goucher College.

Adomanis (Arnold, Md./Severn Archbishop Spalding), a senior who has now recorded at least one goal in all nine Marlin games to date, twice in the first half for VWC (5-4) and three times in the second half to help her team lead from start to finish.

While Adomanis stretched a goal-scoring streak to nine consecutive games, junior Laura Norris (Hollywood, Md./Leonardtown) tallied four goals to extend her goal-scoring streak to eight straight games, and rookie Courtney Williams (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) tallied twice to extend her goal-scoring streak to six consecutive games.  Senior Aimee Sraver (Timonium, Md./St. Paul's) also extended a goal streak to six straight games after tallying twice against the Gophers.

It was a Sraver assist that set up VWC's first goal of the game on a shot by Williams only 38 seconds into the competition.  Adomanis gave VWC a 2-0 lead, but Goucher came back to tie the game with back-to-back goals within a minute of each other.  The Gophers' excitement ended quickly however, as Norris put in consecutive goals in less than 60 seconds to push the Marlins out to a 4-2 lead.

VWC enjoyed its largest lead at 8-5, but Goucher scored the final three goals of the first half in the final 1:45 and posted the first goal of the second half to pull within an 8-7 score.  There was no tie or takeover however, as Norris and Adomanis came through with goals to help push VWC out to a 10-7 lead.  The Marlins led by two more more goals the rest of the way.

Senior Stacey Trow (Mont Vernon, N.H./Souhegan) continued her strong play in the draw control circle for the Marlins, recording a game-high six victories to lead the Marlins to 13 overall.

Senior Ashley Sippel (Leesburg, Va./Ashburn Stone Bridge) recorded 12 saves.

Virginia Wesleyan competes again on Saturday, March 28, hosting the Vixens (3-3) of Sweet Briar College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference competition beginning at 3:30 p.m. on Foster Field at the Trinder Center.
