- 1962 graduate of North Carolina's Guilford College, received a Bachelors degree in Education
- Second season as head golf coach at Virginia Wesleyan College in 2007-08
- Avid golfer for many years
- Served Virgina Wesleyan as the head softball coach for nine years, compiling a 217-156 record
- Former head softball coach at nearby Bayside High School, where he compiled a 184-71 record and guided his teams to three Beach District title and had six players receive All-Virginia honors
- Two-time Beach District Coach of the Year in softball
- Virginia Beach Sports Club's 1995 Coach of the Year
- Received his Masters in 1965 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
- Played four years of baseball and two years of basketball at Guilford
- Married to Nancy; the parents of two sons, Bob and Bill, and grandparents to four
