Pledge Your Support

Dear Friends of Virginia Wesleyan Field Hockey,

It’s going to be a whole new look for the Marlins this year as the team welcomes several new faces…

… and, thanks to your support of programs like “Goals and Goose Eggs,” we were able to buy new uniforms!

It is hard to believe that I am already beginning the second season with the Virginia Wesleyan College Field Hockey Team.

We are thrilled to share with you our initiatives and programs that are taking shape after one short year with the team!

  • Hosting a “USA Field Hockey Futures” program at Old Dominion University in the winter and spring
  • Hosting our annual Marlin Indoor Hockey event on campus
  • Hosting our inaugural Marlin Youth Clinic/Tournament at the National Field Hockey Training Center in Virginia Beach
  • Our Official Marlin Ball Girls Club turned out to be a huge success! We already have 14 ball girls signed up for the 2008 program
  • Implementing an academic program that boosted the team’s GPA to a 3.0 by the end of the spring semester

We hope you will consider joining us on Saturday, October 4, 2008 for our Homecoming match up against ODAC opponent, Roanoke College, on our home field at 1:00 p.m.

Our 2008 game schedule includes several exciting additions. You will also see our budding rivalry continue against Christopher Newport University, who advanced to the NCAA Division III sweet 16 in 2007. We will also introduce three Centennial Conference teams to our schedule, including conference finalists Johns Hopkins.

With all of these new games and initiatives, we are again asking for your support through “Goals and Goose Eggs.”

We invite you to pledge a specific dollar amount for every goal scored and every shutout recorded by the team during our entire season, including post-season tournament play. Many people have chosen to support the team on both sets of statistics, giving $5 per goal and per shutout. You can also choose the option of donating a single amount regardless of the statistics.

Goals for Goose Eggs Example

Pledge: $5 for every Goal and $5 for every Goose Egg
End of Season Statistics: Pledge: Pledge Amount:
Goals: 27 x $5 $135
Goose Eggs: 4 x $5 $20
  TOTAL PLEDGE = $155

At the conclusion of our season, we will send you a summary of the statistics and how you can contribute according to your pledge. Pledge sheets will be accepted throughout the season.

Your contributions will directly benefit the VWC field hockey program and the expenses we incur throughout the year including equipment, travel, and recruiting.

No matter where you are on the east coast, there may be a game in your neck of the woods, and we’d love for you attend! I am enclosing a copy of our 2008 game schedule, so you can track the team and plan a trip. You can also track us online at www.vwc.edu/athletics/fieldhockey. If you attend a game, I would love to meet you, so please feel free to say hello afterward.

If you have any questions about how you can support the Marlins this season, please contact me at 757.455.3396, or jkoubaroulis@vwc.edu.

Thank you in advance for your generosity in helping Virginia Wesleyan Field Hockey!
