Virginia Wesleyan Cheerleading
The Virginia Wesleyan cheering squad is a safe, professional and athletic program. The squad is comprised of student-athletes who are committed to one another and to promoting spirit within and outside of the college. The squad performs at all men's and women's home basketball games. Throughout the year, the Marlin cheerleaders also perform at public functions, school events, and competitions. The Virginia Wesleyan Cheer Squad is coached under Amanda Lyons.
2009 Spring Cheerleading Tryouts
Where: Batten Center Main Gym
Dates: Friday, April 24th 5-9 pm, Sat., April 25th 11-3pm (there will be a mandatory meeting at 4:30pm if you make the squad)
All material will be taught at that time. You must attend each day. Video tryouts will be accepted only with prior approval from the coach.
Requirements
- Cheer: We will teach you a cheer
- Dance: We will teach you a dance (females only)
- Jumps: Toe Touch and one optional
- Tumbling: Standing Back-handspring or round off back-handspring (you may have a light spot)
Virginia Wesleyan cheerleaders are required to maintain a 2.0 grade point average each semester he or she is enrolled as a full time student. All cheerleaders are required to participate in a strength-training program including weights and cardiovascular activity.
You must submit a physical to the trainer by Thursday April 23, 2009 in order to tryout for the 2009-2010 team.
Fall tryouts will only be held if there are available spots on the team.




The mascot of Virginia Wesleyan is "Bob Marlin." Bob Marlin is present at Men’s and Women’s home games. To tryout to be the mascot please arrive Friday, April 24th 5-9 pm and Saturday, April 25th 11-3pm.
