Membership
  • In 2008-2009, total Alumni Association membership grew from 393 to 414, an increase of 5% from 2007-2008.
  • Efforts to increase membership include monthly renewal letters (month before, month during, and month after expiration), targeted membership solicitation after alumni events, the monthly e-newsletter, and membership mailings in August and March.
  • There are 22 alumni volunteers with the Alumni Association; these alumni are helping out at events, and are considered as potential Board members.
Alumni Events
  • The Alumni Association co-sponsored Homecoming & Family Weekend: “The Campaign Trail” October 3-5, 2008. The “Rally at the Polls” tailgate and the men’s soccer game were attended by approximately 400 alumni and several hundred more parents, students and faculty/staff. A 10-year reunion for the Class of 1998 and a 25-year reunion for the Class of 1983 were held during the tailgate and was attended by approximately 42 alumni.
  • A pre-game party was held before men’s basketball game at Randolph-Macon College; 28 people attended the party at the Smokey Pig on February 14, 2009.
  • The Charter Class of the Athletic Hall of Fame was inducted on February 7, 2009.  Inductees and guests enjoyed a reception, luncheon and awards presentation followed by both a men’s and women’s basketball game.
Student Relations & Recruitment
  • The December 2008 Graduate Reception was co-sponsored by the Association – the Board president spoke and representatives from the Association presented senior gifts and served as greeters.
  • The Association co-sponsored a financial seminar, Commencement Rehearsal and the Baccalaureate reception.
  • Melissa Fowler ’09 served the Board as student liaison.  
Alumni Association’s 9th Annual Scholarship Auction & Party
  • The 9th Annual Alumni Association Scholarship Auction & Party was held on April 24, 2009 in the newly modernized Hofheimer Library.
  • The Auction & Party raised $11,310 and four alumni were honored with Distinguished Alumnus, Alumni Service and GOLD Awards.
Board of Trustees Involvement and Communications
  • Association President Kevin Dolliver served his first year as a member of the VWC Board of Trustees and Student Affairs/Athletics Committee. He is continuing on for a second term.
